Oregon Handmade Bicycle Show: who's going?

Next weekend I plan on driving down to Portland for the Handmade Bicycle Show on the 20th and 21st.

I'm staying near Enumclaw Friday night and heading off for PDX in the early AM. Planning on getting into town around 10 or 11ish. Probably staying with a retired Navy buddy of mine, but so far that's not 100% just yet, so I may stay over Saturday night in a hotel.

Anyone else besides myself and AndyCapp heading down from WA? Who in OR is planning on attending? We should get some planning going - perhaps meet up Saturday late afternoon/early evening at Velo Cult for a beer, and then hit the Columbia Brewing Co. for a C&Ver dinner?

Count me in at some point in time. My arrival day and time is TBD.
Now that I started grad school everything else depends on the amount of pages I have to read in the time allotted to do so and/or the due date of my next paper.

Plan as of now is to head down Saturday morning with the family. The show is of course the main attraction, but we plan on hitting Powell's Books and maybe a couple other places while in town. Absolutely want to check out VeloCult and dinner's not out the question. We want to make a full day of it

Color me jealous, that is an awesome event. Make some time to check out River City Cycles and their Mercx shrine, and eat a lunch at The Side Door Cafe (great sandwiches and beer selection) across the parking lot west. The Deschutes brewpub is a fave also, and they sell their selection of jerseys there after you eat their great food and drink their incredible beers.

Side door cafe:

At a glance: exposed brick fresh squeezed daily specials mimosas bagels

Address: 425 Southeast Washington Street, Portland, OR 97214

If you're also a coffee geek like me, this is the best in PDX in my view:

Hope you guys have a great time in my old stomping grounds. Bring a good macro lens!

I love the idea of a BFC&V cap, I'd be in if someone organized that....

Probably going Sunday. I'm leading a recumbent gang ride Saturday, and not showing up is not an option.

The venue is about 4 miles from work. Might make a nice ride. : https://ohbs.oregonframebuilders.org/venue/

I'm local, will go, and would definitely like to get together at VeloCult for beer after.

I can't get to the show itself until around noon Saturday, and having never been, don't know how long I should plan to spend. How about DD sets a time to meet up at VeloCult (5 pm? Dunno) and we meet up there.

Dinner - I've been wanting to go to a couple of Japanese Izakaya places not terribly far from VC. But there are plenty of other options too.

Are you guys going to wear recognizable stuff at the show? A particular cap, etc?

Maybe we should find some of those "Hi, My Name Is ___________" stickers and wear them to the event

Setting a specific time at VC sounds like a good idea, as opposed to trying to meet up at the show itself. Some of us could walk 'round all day long and look/shoot pics, whereas some would want to do a couple hours max. I get that.

However, not having some brews/food together would be criminal. I think 5pm at VC would work great.

For those interested in linking up for some chat at the show, my cell: 360-632-8088. No, I'm not worried about my number getting out there; it'll only be active until early February and then I close my T-Mobile account when I head off for DG!

I'll take a ton of pics/notes and of course will share the report on this thread. Probably won't post until Monday evening after the show, though, due to the long drive home on Sunday.

PM me if you want to pass along your digits quietly.

Update:

Looks like a few of us are planning to get to the show by noon or 1pm. Also planning on meeting up at Velo Cult for a beer at 5pm and then on to dinner around 6pm. I vote for the Columbia Brewing Company

Anyone else going to be in town/around for a meet/greet?

Velocult is a must see... Sky is an excellent host and human being and if there is a bunch of people going give him a heads up and am sure he would give the extra tour of the basement where some of the sweetest bikes you have ever seen are kept.

The lounge and the movie theatre are also pretty damn cool.

^ We'll try to meet up at the show at some point - it appears most of us will get there between noon and 1pm. Meet up at Velo Cult around 5pm for a beer, then dinner somewhere around there an hour or so later.

Looks like we'll be keeping an eye out for a couple of Peugeot caps

My niece is going to the show for me.

She is a freshman at Lewis & Clark this year.

Going to ask a few questions!

Here are a handful of pictures. I didn't take very many, I was too busy having a good time. Thanks everyone!

Copper plated bike - the definition of wall art, imaging the polishing needed if you actually rode it

Wood trunk or Barbie's rumble seat

My favorite bike of the evening - the race warrior's steed of the early 1990s.

My favorite frame of the evening - the fillets were perfectly smooth and the frame was absolutely new, a time machine.

I had a great time - from the show to the after party at Velo Cult, it was a good day

My pal Fred and I met up with Andy (and his friend Andy), TJ (Ciufalon) and John (jyl). We moseyed around the show until around 1530 or so, then met up at the Columbia River Brewing Co. for dinner. Afterwards, we hit VC for the after party, the best part of which was when Sky took us down to the basement to see the rest of the place.

Wow...

Pics tomorrow night - I just got back up to Whidbey and have to get an early start tomorrow.

Thanks guys - that was fun and I hope we get a chance to meet up once more for dinner/beers before I head for Phoenix and ultimately Diego Garcia!

I too had a great time. The day was perfect. Great bike show, meeting terrific forum members, hanging out for dinner and sharing our love of cycling at Velo Cult. Was really nice meeting everyone that made it and making new friends; a couple of which are local to me and all of whom I hope to stay in touch with and see occasionally when we are able to. Thanks everyone who came and provided such great camaraderie.
