I've got this sad old Legnano:

It needs new chainstays (one of them is rusted through, and the other not much better), but it's a little too big for me so I haven't been in any hurry to tackle it.

Just one right now, a 1972 C.N.C. I stripped it well over a year ago, but just haven't been able to find the right weekend to paint.

The paint is the original team colour (old Belgian team) but it is really crappy (can I say crappy?).

Looks like it may languish a little longer.

Either color would look good by itself. Together? God, no.

Of course, my opinion and $1.50 will get you a bad cup of coffee.

This one kills me.

A mid-90s Chris Kvale crit frame.

May be the nicest frameset I own.

Won't fit me and is somewhat challenging to fit others as well.

I bought her with a garage full of Campy goodies two years ago.

I keep hoping I'll find somebody to match this size wise.

In the meantime, she hangs on the wall in our rec room.

I have a first year Kona Explosif that has been waiting for the right parts for some years... I think I have most of the first gen XTR now to start building up the bike.

Will be an enjoyable project that should not take me more than an afternoon...

2001 Jamis Eclipse, basically bought to see what "modern" steel might ride like, I guess I forgot it was 2010 or so when I bought it and the 853 wasnt really modern anymore. Never ended up building it up, im not sure if its because its a Jamis and thats a little bit embarrassing so I would have to strip it and get it painted, and/or I was also worried all built up it would seem slightly heavier than what I'm used too, even if im not really a weight weenie.

Jamis isn't that bad really? They have decent paint colors and graphics, not to mention they have a steel hardtail 650 mtb on the market right now, that I would LOVE to own if it wasn't over 2 grand. Oh yeah, 650 has hit the mtb scene now! Supposedly it's a nice compromise between 29" obstacle smoothing, and 26" agility.,,,,BD

You know? Something magical happened as this thread grew to 2 pages. I threw the Grand Sports up on the stand, and is now starting to look like a bike again. GB bars and stem, dug out some SKS silver fenders, Weinmann centerpulls(missing parts ARRGH) Drilled Dia Compe levers. 70's Shimano/Araya large flange rims that were on the Competition when I got it, I even polished up one of my Crane bells, and screwed it onto the stem quill. It's going to "look" somewhat original, but that's about it. I don't have the cash to build it to factory spec, I just want to ride the thing, hehe.

I am thinking of using a set Deore DX derailleurs. since I no longer have any 70's groups like I used to. Sugino Maxy cranks from the rusty Voyageur(the good ones with the hollowed spider and replaceable chainrings) I put on my Honey B.17 that seems to float from bike to bike, and will get some Newbaums brown cloth later on. I will probably not get it done before I leave for my new job Saturday, but it will give me inspiration the next time I come back home.,,,,BD

1976 LeJeune Professional. Full 531 frame. Bought at Love of Jesus thrift store ten years or so ago for 75$ as a complete, if beat, bike.

I'll come up with something for it eventually.

Yes Bikingshearer, I agree. I have had the frame for quite some time now but it was built up for most of that time. I always got 2 reactions, those that 'dug' it and those that detested it. I was in the last category. Now....it's actually starting to grow on me.

Here's how it looked as a bike:

It's really the only photo I have of it as a bike - only a 'mother' could love that!

The gold frame pump is the only thing that make those colors work at all!

I'd ride that nice Colnago any day of the week.

A Colnago often pushes riders' opinions left and right- this one is no different!

Now more than ever, I find myself wishing I had a pair of fat 1 1/4" Pasela TG's to throw on the GS. I am still comppletely puzzled by this frame though. It is the only full 531 butted tube frame I have ever seen with stamped drops. I don't think it's a fake, since ALL the decals are present and the Patina is perfect for it's age. It even has the little triangle Carlton race proven decal at the bottom of the seat tube. I'd post a pic, but I was living out of town for a while, and now my camera cord has gone missing. I'd post a pic of the orange SS too, as it had also been around about as long as the GS and was only briefly built with 9 speed Tiagra before it sat for 4-5 years.,,,,BD

Thanks Gomango, I must admit I do have a 'soft spot' for this ugly duckling.

Thanks jimmuller, I think you're onto something. I should try the gold pump on a couple of my other bikes - who knows, it may turn out to be a secret beauty weapon.

You're speaking of a Raleigh Gran(d) Sport? Here is mine:

It's place in the Raleigh line-up (at least in '73) was the middle, between the Super Course and the Competition, a better than average sport/club bike, set up with slightly better than average components and with randonneur handlebar and toe clips and straps. In other words, it was meant to be affordable but good. So maybe stamped dropouts were one way to keep the cost down.

After I had some repair work done to my Look, I lugged it around for over 20 years before I repainted it.

And built it up.

Better late than never.

well worth the wait, Randy... one of my all time fav's. I guess I'm not into riding/restoring vintage frames for long enough to have one for "years", but I have one frame that will probably stay in the shed for some time while I figure out what to do with it.

I have a WWII paratrooper frame waiting for a project. The latest idea is to make it a Fixie, but have other projects to finish first.
