Loose screws - owners retiring in a few months

Received an email this morning from the Loose Screws owners:

"With this email we are announcing our intention to retire in the spring of 2013. We will continue to send out monthly
emails for the next several months, advising you of any special deals and any previously unlisted items that we find in
our warehouse. Rest assured that all customer information, including your email address, will be “retired” with us.

Your encouragement has been fundamental to our existence, and we do appreciate your orders and goodwill. You have
bolstered our conviction that bicycle riders are the greatest people and best customers around. Thank you!"

That's a bummer - I really like ordering stuff from them.

I agree a real bummer. They had some unique parts at decent prices.

I wish I lived closer I would try and con my way into the warehouse.

I'm going to miss them too. I went out of my way to give them my business because I like small operations like this. On my last order, I received an e-mail from Jean apologizing for the "delay" in shipping the order even thought it had only been two days since I placed the order! All my orders were promptly shipped and well packaged. And the prices? I got a pair of new Zefel Christophe toe straps for $8.09 and MKS toe clips for $13.40. Can't beat that! I recommend for everyone to go to their liquidation closeout:

http://www.loosescrews.com

Thanks Jeff and Jean (Loose Screws), I wish you happy trails ahead.

I've ordered a bunch of parts from over the years and like them.

But it's like I've always said, there's no money in vintage....and its not that they dont have old parts, they do, but they have alot fo old parts nobody needs or buys.

Kind of like the motorcycle business. The old saying was: "the way to end up with a small fortune in the motorcycle business is to start with a big fortune".

Curiously, their website does not mention any of this. They often have announcements at first entry.

So who's buying up/taking over their stock of parts? I hope it will all be available for us to buy again in some way.

Your cart shows a 20% discount. Perhaps they wanted to give their older and dare I say perfered customers advance notice. They have a few unique things in stock, Sante RD pulleys which I guess are unique, 105 'Green' brake calipers...

Maybe UBP? I assumed they would try and liquidate as much as possible.

Just bought some stuff this morning - the cart takes the 20% discount (separate line) and then adds shipping.

I would think Bike Tools, Etc. There web sites have nearly identical layout. They are both in Ashland OR. And I think the principals once worked together, although
I don't really know the story.

http://www.biketoolsetc.com/

Well, check that. Their inventory is always a mess. Endless items not in stock. Perhaps they are heading for retirement also.

They've been a great resource over the years for the really hard-to-find stuff, especially in the pre-internet days. They were always super-nice when I'd phone in orders.

I seem to remember some kind of reorganization about 10-15 years ago where they merged with "Third Hand" bike parts and briefly shutdown.

Bike tools Etc! I was thinking of them earlier when I said UBP but I knew UBP wasn't quite right. I always thought they were the same company because back in the day even their catalogs were similar.

I may officially be aq hoarder after the order I just placed.

I was speaking somewhat genericly. And yes I was peeking into your cart, I noticed you did pickup any veggies.

Just placed my order for a bunch of "good to have" parts. That 20% discount sure is nice, and you can tell a lot of stuff has been cleaned out already.

They've updated the main page with the notice that they'll be retiring next year.

I am not sure what you mean by "good parts" but when I placed my order on the 16th they were out of the HS spacers and 8spd cassettes I ordered. I may try and get some more Silca stuff though.
