replacement rim suggestion for '78 Raleigh Competition GS?
 

I got snuck up upon by a pothole on the way home from a ride last weekend; the front rim on my beloved Raleigh looked okay but went way out of lateral true. No broken or obviously loose spokes, either. Braking was comical.

Dropped it off at the LBS today, was called back a few hour later with the news that the rim was toast. Spokes breaking all over the place, the rim just not wanting to go back into alignment. It's a Weinmann A129 concave model, 36 h.

(They're not hacks- my favorite vintage-loving shop owner just moved back into town and took over the service dept here. I'd follow his advice to hell and back- he's that trustworthy.)

So....what's the better course:

NOS Weinmann Concave rim and new spokes on the VG Gran Sport hub

Another fairly stout model of NOS vintage rim and new spokes etc

A classic profile modern rim and new spokes as above (will redo the rear one with a matching rim ASAP)
This is to be an Eroica bike (probably 2014), so it needs to look the part as well as deal with those primitive roads.

Am open to all sorts of suggestions...

Wow, an erotica bike. I was going to suggest a Fiamme red label set of rims as they seem to crop-up occasionally. But, seeing it is an iconic bike I would suggest replacing the rim with another Weinmann A129 Concave no matter how long it takes. I'd just use another wheel in the mean time.

It would be interesting to really examine the old rim to determine just what is actually wrong with it. Perhaps the join has separated and may be beyond repair. Perhaps it is saveable though.
