Suntour Superbe NOS rear derailleur that valuable?

Just sold on ebay for slightly more than $160 on ebay, with shipping.

It never ceases to amaze me that certain C & V components in very good to NOS condition frequently sell for more than what BF members are paying the entire bike.

They were so much cheaper about two years ago, in fact, the Cyclone MkII was sometimes selling for the same or even a bit more than the Superbes at one time....but then people seem to have suddenly acquired the taste for the Superbes too. So here we are now with another expensive derailleur everyone's looking for.

Superbe's seem to fluctuate a lot. Saw a newer one that was the black and gold one sell for $35 maybe 2 years ago. The older ones seem to have been holding steady at $40-$60. NOS makes any price go crazy.

+ I can not figure this out also a slightly higher level nicer Japanese bike from the early 70's through early 80's is often worth more parted out than in good riding original condition. Whole bike only $200 while a nicer competion crank goes $100 and a set clean VX shifter/DRs goe's for $50. The whole bikes Sell for not much more than $200 in good condition ready top ride.

Looks like there may have been some shill bidding going on early (I never trust low feedback bidders on expensive items) then three people that really wanted it jumped in. Sometimes auctions like this get run up because of the "I'm not going to let someone else have this no matter what" attitude...

Ebay is a crap shoot. There's so much variation is selling prices for identical items that it's not funny. All you need is two fanatics looking at the same auction...
