Restoring the Falcon
Dear all
I have recently finished restoring my fathers Falcon (which I suspect is an Olympic 78 but I am not sure). It has the weinman breaks and the huret shifters and derailleurs. The frame is exactly the same as the bike restored here: http://www.mytenspeeds.com/My_TenSpe...troduction.htm I can recall that it originally had mudguards fitted. I need to resolve a final issue and I wanted to see if anyone here knows the answer?? Basically the existing seatpost is short (for my height) and slips down while I am riding. (I suspect that the post has become oval over the years). I have tried to measure the diameter of the existing seatpost using a vernier caliper so I could order a new longer one. (I keep getting different measurement every time I try which I guess it is because the existing seatpost is not round). Unfortunately I tried my luck and ordered a 25.4mm online but got it wrong (its to small it wobbles when inserted in the frame). I have also tried some 26.2mm seatposts which I had at home and those are to big! Would you know what seatpost diameter this bike takes? Is it the 25.6mm or the 25.8mm Every input is highly appreciated. George By the way I am impressed at the performance of the drivetrain and the steel frame rights like a dream ! |
It could be 26.0 also. Many times the original post is gone and a smaller one is used and the top of the lug is damaged making it difficult to fit any post correctly. Could that be the case?
