laterally stiff, yet vertically compliant.

rootboy 11-24-12 07:01 AM

Salvador Dali's bike?

cobrabyte 11-24-12 07:01 AM

Oh, that's the rare Reynolds double butted, triple twisted tubing.

I dunno. I can see that front end collapsing with the slightest provocation. Not me, by golly.

RubberLegs 11-24-12 07:30 AM

Take that on a long, steep downhill run....NOT! Looks like it may break just sitting there!

SuperLJ 11-24-12 07:34 AM

Organ donor's bike...

RubberLegs 11-24-12 08:11 AM

You DON'T tell a bike mechanic/artist that you want a sick TWISTED look on your bike....not without SPECIFIC instructions! :-)

RobbieTunes 11-24-12 08:45 AM

One of the newer models, now coming out of Colorado.....

TugaDude 11-24-12 08:50 AM

Finally! A way to shorten a bike's reach without changing stems........

Is it real, or is it photoshop?

I remember reading about these "twisted bikes" about four-five years ago, the guy that makes them is a blacksmith by trade, and he is rather short, so he took a larger frame and cut the top and down tube an inch or two from the end, and then attatched the twisted gaspipe he shaped with a propane torch. It is rather heavy from the twisted tubing being thick enough to survive the twisting process.

Lynskey prototype.

qcpmsame 11-24-12 09:11 AM

Looking at the "downtube", after it leaves the steering head tube, there is a kink/crease, not a tubing bend. Even with the twists of the two tubes this is where it is going to fail. Not me, no way, no how, not gonna do it, wouldn't be the prudent thing to do.

The fork is the only thing that is not bent:-) None the less, I applaud creativity. Would I ride it? Nope!

Chombi 11-24-12 01:55 PM

Somebody was desperate to own an SLX framed bike, so he went ahead and added helical reinforcement to his Hi Ten tubed bike.......:rolleyes:

Drillium Dude 11-24-12 02:06 PM

You know, I'm not sure that's a gaspipe frame at all. In fact, the rear dropouts - at least from the detail allowed in the pic - seem higher-end. This might've been something really nice before the "artist" got hold of it.

I AM an artist - no friggin' way I twist up a frame for any reason at all... and no friggin' way do I even consider riding something like that. Which, by the way, it appears the guy actually does do. Stark ravin' nuts.

Paramount1973 11-24-12 07:35 PM

Well...hmph. Hope that doesn't catch on. The ultimate Drewing.
