Old Vittoria Mastik One tubes still good?

Any experience using NOS tubes of tubular cement?
I just dug out a pair of Vittoria Mastik'One tubes I've been carrying in a file cabinet for the past 20-30 years. The sealed tubes feel as good as new from my withered memory. Is there a shelf-life for this stuff? Thinking of buying some new sew-ups and using an old wheel set from the garage, no racing, intended use simply low mileage fitness riding for starters. Of course i have no problem buying new tubes of cement and once i pop these i can check the condition but if there's an accepted shelf-life belief, please share. http://bikeforums.net/attachment.php...hmentid=285337 thanks eric fresno, ca. |
I had used some old Clement glue I used a few years ago everythign seemed fine. Unless the glue if uber runny and looks seperated coming out of the tube I think you should be OK. and if it doesn come out then I think it is no good LOL

Hardening is the enemy, if it flows out of the tube and gives you a headache, it is great!

The packaging style on those does not look that old, maybe 10 years? Anyway, knead the tube well before opening. If it flows out and still looks "wet" I would use it. Thumb check the tire before you ride.

Thanks everyone. the tubes compress easily, or as much as they seemed to do when new. i'm pretty sure i bought these way before my daughter was born and she's 12 going on 13. This'll be interesting. Still shopping for some inexpensive sew-ups. i won't go into that though, plenty of talk i can search.
