Ladies and Gentlemen, My Newest Italian Ride Has Arrived!
So quite a few of you guys know that I've been looking to add another Italian to my stable from this thread that I started a couple of weeks back -
https://www.bikeforums.net/showthread...t=lord+help+me
There, I received alot of very good opinions on whether to go for the Colnago that I always wanted. Some said "go for it" while others said look to the smaller Italian builders. Well, I went for it and I am now the proud new owner of a 1978 Colnago Super!
Some of you guys are familiar with this bike and have seen it here before, because I purchased it from one of the finest BF'ers to grace this site, Gomango. He had this silver Super that to me, was just to beautiful to pass on. It is so clean, so pristine and so well detailed that it looks NOS. The paint and decals are flawless and the Campy NR bits are nicely polished and look new. It is handsomely understatedIMO, and lacks the louder paint and decals of the later Colnago's. Really perfect! The geometry of the bike looks aggressive and it looks fast just sitting here (I haven't had the chance to ride it yet because of the rainy weekend). IMHO, the bike looks high end, and I think even non-bike folks will know this bike is something abit special when they see it. Even my wife said, "wow, that's pretty". High praise for sure! On this Colnago, I see really nice craftsmanship and attention to detail, and none of the sloppiness that some people contend Colnago's tended to have.
I want to thank Grady for bringing this bike to my attention and also thank his son for outgrowing it! From start to finish, he made this purchase a real pleasure. I also want to thank Khatful for the great boxing and packaging job. I think this would have survived anything!
So, my dream of some day owning a Colnago has been realized. Thanks to all who gave their opinions!
Without further ado! -
The Box (not a Bianchi!)
What a packing job!
Out of the box
Coming together!
Ta Daaaa!

Jim's a great guy everyone.
He deserves the Colnago.
There was absolutely no reason to let this beauty hang on a hook indefinitely.
This was originally a father and son project for my youngest.
Didn't go according to plans though as he grew too fast!
So happy then that the timing worked on this beauty.
Also, a huge thanks to Keith for packing this for shipping.
Once I saw how meticulously Khatful packed this beauty, I had little concern that the Super would arrive safely.
Again, enjoy the Super Jim. Wait till you take her out on a nice sunny Sunday for a long ride.
Life doesn't get much sweeter.
Here's a final pic from my side. This was the day my youngest finished the cabling.
Not bad for a 13 year old.

I came home from a very tough night on the job last night, 13 hrs in the rain. I was dog tired and beaten down. But I went down to my basement where I have the Colnago, propped it up nicely next to my big screen TV, opened up a bottle of wine, sat back, watched some TV, glanced at the Nago, sipped some wine - repeat! Watch some TV, glance at the Nago, sip some wine - repeat! I truly enjoyed the fruits of my labor!
Thanks for the compliments guys! It's a pleasure to bring this bike to everyone here. And thanks for the extra pic Grady - my camera skills are lacking!

VERY nice! Once you got the itch you weren't going to be satisfied until you got your Colnago.
Here's to many enjoyable rides together.

As many here know, I have my other Italian thrill ride, my Basso Gap, which is a really great ride, but still, I wanted the Colnago! Crazy how it works, isn't it?

I was pleasantly surprised by my '73 Super, so much so I bought another earlier one.
There is a different brand coming soon, so we will see what bike gets "bike of the month - ridden most award"
From the images this one looks quite nice. Silver is a very understated color for these.
Still looking for a "playing card" graphics example. In a 55 or 56 center to top if one is out there in BF land.
There was an unfortunate respray 58 on ebay recently that from the details I did see was right for those graphics but the seller never fully answered my question, he advised he would, but never followed up. So it goes.

Grazie! It is Saronni Red... so pretty in the sun. I found this last August on CL. I've been cleaning it up and changing out some of the parts; new SR brakes and seat post, Concor saddle, new cables, tires and lower freewheel. It's an absolute joy to ride!

That is a sweet bike! I remember seeing pics that Gomango had posted of that bike, and have always thought it was a beauty. Congrats!

I'll bet your wife taught you that one!
But yeah, the silver is so nicely understated and it does look so nice in person. It certainly doesn't scream at you. The yellow highlights around the black decals is all this bike needs to bring out the beauty. And Grady's yellow Benotto handlebar tape and yellow brake cables just accentuates the whole bike. I'm staring and admiring it right now! sigh...
