just finished painting it. not to many maino's around so i just redid it my way. nervous as hell about putting the headbadge on, so i will put that off awhile. going with a campy gran sport group, still need a few things and still not sure about the cranks.

How long does it take you in prep work?

How long does the paint cure before you go with decals and clear?

Thanks Grady, let's plan to get your frame done soon as Christmas is over. Prep of the frame depends on what shapes it is in. Set up depends on the weather. Colder weather makes the cure time longer. Normal time, I use 3 coats of primer, 15 minutes between coats. Wait 30 minutes and wet sand. 4-6 coats of color 15 minutes between coats then I wait about 2 hours then put the decals on. Then 6-7 coats of clear with 15 minutes between coats, I painted this outside, so it took a few days. I waited 24 hours before I applied the decals. Once I get all the Christmas presents out of the garage, I will be able to paint your inside where it's warm and clean

Why nervous about the badge? Center punch, drill, tap screw on badge. If you are using adhesive, I like silicone adhesive. 24 hour set up gives plenty of time for correct positioning.

For cranks, I vote Magistroni. There was just a really cool 5-pin version on ebay that went for pretty cheap. The 5-pin was a later version with a square taper.

Thank you. I got the headbadge on ok. I used the origina rivets, so they had to be hammered in. Last time I did a headbadge I gouged fresh paint and had to redo it.

I have been looking at this bike on CL since it is near me for sale. Just noticed that you removed the fender eyelets. Why? Seems like some fenders would be nice for this type of bike.

Thanks, I removed the eyelets because I was going a different route with the bike. I didn't like the bike with drop bars. After I put upright bars on it I regretted cutting them off. I am surprised I haven't had any takers at $300 with the components I have on it.

Ah, the joys of old bicycles: easy to find and restore, hard to get your effort out of them!

yeah it is, but i ended up going overboard on the build,and i put way to much money into it.
