C&V Southern Arizona - Group Ride

So a few members and myself here, are organizing a group ride in the Phoenix area.
I'm thinking Sunday, January 6th or Saturday the 12th would be a good date, that way everybody will be done with Holiday stuff.

Drillium Dude is shipping out to DG here, in early 2013 (and traveling down south for a while beforehand). So a few PM's were exchanged between DD, KB, and WNG and we decided to organize a group ride, around 40 miles or so (always subject to change, +/-). I am a Tucson local, so I am not terribly familiar with good routes/central meeting areas in PHX. But, a handful of members have already backed the idea - so I figured it would be a good idea to get the thread started.

I have been collecting screennames of everyone from Southern AZ that I have seen posting in the last few months, so I will send out a mass-pm to all of those addresses.

What say ye?

I guess it depends on if we want to ride a MUP or roads. There are some great places to ride in paradise valley, residential, or the Scottsdale green belt, MUP. Those are the places I would recommend.

I'm here

Long day yesterday the driving seat with a none-to-please feline (cooped up in the car for the third day straight), so I'm hitting the sack for some nap-time. But I'd be up for either day - should be back from TX with my mom in time for a ride on the 6th, and I can do the 12th as well.

I'm open to whatever the majority wants to do. WNG: still wanting to ride the '78 Super?

Hey DD where are you staying in Phoenix? This might help determine where we want to ride.

Miss an opportunity to ride one of your Italian stallions, heck no!
We two, of course could arrange additional rides in PHX for the Super.

I'm going to try to get my Bianchi ready for the group event. Gomango has a set of bars and stem en route to me. And I'm heading over to the bike co-op today to see if they might have a front brake caliper or salvage a quick release lever off one.
Meantime, a few teasers from wrenching today:

Depending on what everyone is looking for, I can map out a few routes. I know the PV area pretty well, and have some good rides up in the Carefree area.
I don't have any MUP rides, only road. If you go to Carefree, you will climb a bit whether you want to or not. In PV you can climb or detour.

I really like PV for both a relaxed, conversational ride, or a 'I want to make you puke' ride.

I'll see about posting a poll for route suggestions, and post some pictures of the varied views from a variety of routes.

I have a feeling we're going to see a lot of nice bikes on this ride. That Bianchi is one beautiful bike!

I'll just throw out what I recommended to Chicago Al in his recent request for Phoenix ride suggestions. It's a little bit of everything, Paradise Valley neighborhood streets, Indian Bend bike path, Tempe Town Lake, and canal paths. Very mellow, nice distance, relatively flat and conducive to group rides. Also, it's convenient to access.

Here is a link to the map of the ride:
https://maps.google.com/?q=https://sha...21204-1058.kml

And here is a link to a description of the route I just posted here:

Hey saguaro, is the canal path paved the whole way? I know in some areas it turns to gravel so I just wanted to check.

It's paved the whole way. There are a couple places between mile 31 and mile 36 where SRP has one of those goofy gates across the path. You can ride around them (as I do) and briefly ride on dirt, or if you dont want to do that you can stop and carry your bike the two feet around the gate. This occurs maybe 3 or 4 times.

I'm around 40tha Avenue and Northern, but really - I can drive most anywhere. I'll be doing a test-run up SM in the next few days myself to find out how far I'll be lagging behind you guys

I'll be up for a ride in Tucson, too, as I plan on going out there to visit friends and show off the drillium Alpina to a guy I did some drillium for last year.

I'm going to post my cell number here; I'll only maintain this for the next month or so, so that should be safe enough, right?

This

I've been off the bike for a month. At my age (!) that's a lot of down-time. Plus, it's the holidays and we're all stuffing our faces But, really, how many times are we going to get the chance to get a lot of C&V guys on a ride? I think conversational would be the order of the day!

Save the gut-busting stuff for another day - or the Road Forum

Good deal, Will - I'll clean it (and the other two bikes) up from the rainy commute and get them tuned up, too. I noted a tiny bit of rust on the '78's chain when I lifted it off the rack this morning.

The Bianchi looks smashing - did you do all the red highlighting (rims, gear levers)? If so, that really looks fantastic - it's those little details that always make me look twice. Looking good!

You've got my number...

Thanks for the nice compliments guys!
DD:
Yup! After a lot of scrubbing and buffing, I began personalizing it the best I could. I thought the red highlights would go nicely with the decals. She may only be an entry level model, but this $50 find is worth its weight in gold to me.
No luck on the front brake, co-op was closed for the holiday. Darn!

I'm with DD, a more conversational paced ride would be my desire. (haven't been on a bike in 3 months!)

Hang in there wng.

The box will be worth your while when she shows.

In the meantime, ride the daylights out of DD's Super for me.

That's one sweet ride and your Bianchi will be a treat as well.
