Raleigh with two serials?

Hello,

I need some help identifying a Raleigh I bought off ebay. I'm pretty sure none of the components or paintwork are original so am trying to ID it from the frame. It has Suntour gears and Weinmann 610 brakes which may be original.

There is a serial number on the rear of the seat tube which is NB2006772 which would indicate that it is made in Nottingham in either 1972 or 1982. I'd guess '72 as it has braze on's for the top tube gear cable on the underside rather than the top (as per 1982 style).
It also has a serial on the bottom bracket underside... NG178EQ76 and a single S under that at a 90 degrees angle.

What's thrown me a bit is that everywhere I look the consensus is that Raleigh introduced this numbering system in 1973. Is mine different because it's a UK bike, and the numbering system took a year or two to reach the US? I also can't match up the lugs to any model I've seen in the catalogues.

Any help would be great.

Peter
