Yes. Turkey frying is serious business and Mr Shatner suffered fairly serious burns from a fryer. His insurance company asked him to do a public service message on it. Personally I find the crockpot much easier and safer.

Kirk, sans dingle-dangle, what could possibly go wrong!?!? Deep fried turkey IS good, have done it....VERY CAREFULLY....For Thanksgiving, did TWO trashcan turkeys out on the beach....just charcoal briquettes, much safer, but takes longer, but tasty, juicy birds! Be Safe out there, Merry Christmas, and a safe, prosperous C&V New Year.

Since we have a proliferation of wild turkeys on my property it would be unsurprising that I will be trying this soon enough....but will be an outside endeavor and with protective clothing

Fresh turkey would help as well. Alot of these incidents happen because of frozen turkeys. OldsCOOL, you probably have the right idea . Good luck with the Turkey Hunt .

Those rascals are everywhere.
FWIW We use our deep fryer up at the cabin for walleye and panfish filets.
A little "Shore Lunch" brand coating, paprika, Lowry's seasoned salt and we are good to go.
They turn out perfectly every time.

Fried a turkey for Thanksgiving, and a turkey breast as part of the Xmas feast. Both came out delicious, and really not that hard to do. Plus it's quick - 35 to 45 minutes and you're ready to eat.

We decided we wanted to try the fried turkey thing, but opted instead for the Butterball electric turkey fryer. It was a success......delicious, moist turkey, cooked quickly, etc., etc.. The big problem was the cleanup afterwards. It took hours to clean up all the mess. And even though the turkey was a bit better than conventionally roasted turkey, it wasn't THAT much better to justify all the mess. We just sold it at a garage sale. Somebody got a heck of a deal on a turkey fryer that had only been used once.

Bought it specifically for making stock from beef bones, Mike. But as it turns out, we're eating less beef in this house so I've only used it twice. Still, nice to have a large stock pot on hand.
