looking to spend $30 +- or less, 12-28. What do you like/use? SRAM, Shimano, Sunrace? Specific model from one of the three listed? thanks, Brian

I'm riding both a Shimano HG20, and a SRAM 870 where I left off an 8th gear. I vaguely recall using a small cog from an old Shimano cassette to get the spacing right on the latter. They're soooo much cheaper than 9 and 10 speed cassettes!

I believe the only one SRAM makes is their 12-32. I don't have any experience with SunRace or IRD, but I like the Shimano HG50s -- the flat black isn't the most appealing, and the rivets don't allow for easy customization like the HG70's bolt-and-nut, but they seem to be just as good of quality as the older ones.

And this! Universal Cycles has some variants for $22 each, so I buy a couple at a time!

do you need to have the "compact" type of hub body for a 12t cog? or is that only 11t?

Last cassette I bought was a 12/28 from Nashbar, most likely made for them by SunRace. I like it fine.
