Drillium Dude's stocking stuffer. Thanks D.D. !*

Got home from vacation to discover a huge pile of junk in my P.O. Box. There was a jewel among the dross, though.
Check out this neat Campy NR key fob Jeff sent me. Too cool, D. Dude. Time to retire that "Patent Campagnolo" leg I sliced out of a chain ring I "Super Record"ed ages ago. While I didn't get a pic of it, the back is signed and dated too. Thanks very much Jeff. This definitely adds a touch of class to my key chain.

Yeah Mike. As I remember, I cut out that web from a Record chain ring, maybe 35 years ago? Can't remember what happened to it but I no longer have it so I guess I wore it out.

Very nicely done, D.D.! And what a wonderful gift. Rootboy's a lucky guy!

The chainring hack is impressive, too, RB! In addition to key chain bling, I could see it as a nice emblem to tack on to something, like a workshop door or tool box.

Great job dd on the key fob, it looks a LOT nicer than any of the originals I've seen.

Aw, heck - rootboy's not taking his own portion of the credit for producing this little bauble; he made the job easy by cutting this front plate out of the mashed RD in the first place. All I had to do was the final shaping at both ends and give it a lick of a polish, then enamel.

Glad you like it, Scott - it appears to be an earlier outer plate, around '72 or '73, I believe. Enjoy

BTW, I tried to match Campy's blue and I think I got it pretty close.

Are you the guy on Ebay that uses Gumby in his auctions - along with the wicked-funny writeups?

Oh. heh heh .......this is THAT one? I had forgotten about that one, figuring it was long gone on some other project.
That's right. Part of my initial, ill-fated endeavor into rebuilding NR derailleurs. For which I made the goofy little tools in my naiveté. First one came apart like nothing. Pins pushed right out. Lulled into a false sense of confidence. "What's so tough about this?" Then, on the second and third attempts I ran head on into reality. Like Otis suggested: welded in pins. That project sits fallow on my work bench.

Ah yes. Big Blue. I'd say you nailed it, Dude. Handsome little trinket indeed.

^ Yup - one of them, anyway. The other one was simply removed - and was a later outer arm. I had to cut it from scratch, but it came out nicely, too. That one's going to another C&Ver that did some really nice things for me in the past couple of months

Here's a pic of the two of them together before they parted ways:

OK. I've got to ask you, how do you determine the age of said plates? Dimple pattern? Spacing of the letters?

(p.s. note the difference in color rendition between your photo and mine. Natural vs. artificial light?)

Note the border at the pointed ends; the border is thicker on the earlier plates, and thinner on the later ones. The curvature of the border at the ends on the earlier plates is also a bit more acute compared to the later versions. My pic should help to see these subtle differences.

I'm not sure about my camera setting when I shot my photo, but it was probably set for incandescent lighting. That's the problem regarding colors/hues, ain't it? All depends on the presentation

Right, Jeff. Shot that pic on the windowsill this morning. I frequently get my settings messed up when it comes to light. Always a challenge. New camera, too.

Note also the difference in the font/type, shape and spacing. Earlier one seems to be more "squeezed" on the NR part. Interesting. Thx. S.

I like it!

The zipper tab broke on my wife's winter coat so I replaced it with a part of a broken Campagnolo downtube shifter.

Cool idea. I'm thinking of making my wife a pair of ear rings from a set. But I'll have to sedate her before I attach them.

Mine was made for keychain use. I put it on my wife's coat for a temporary solution when it got cold. It's been over a month and I haven't gotten it back
