Ever Seen a GB stem like this?
Hey all. Pulled this off a Claud Butler today - ordinary Hiduminium stem, but with a wierd brake cable guide - hanger in it. Never seen that before, and I can't imagine what it's for. Sorry for the awful pic - not much light tonight, but anyone like to guess?

Yeah, check my Huffy/Carlton pics from last week. The cable guide is for the front brake cable for centerpulls, seemed to be a British treatment, but don't know if it was factory or just an individual's modification.

Do you know, I thought it was for centre pulls, and then I thought "No, because when you turned the bars, the cable would stretch". It took this answer to make me think that actually, when you turn the bars, the wheels and brakes turn too. Doh!

Heres a pic of the stem on my Browning, kinda the same, except for the cable guide, which I think is pretty cool

That's similar to the GB stem that came new stock on my 66ish Raleigh Carlton. It's got a threaded hole that takes a barrel adjuster with a nut on it. Unfortunately I misplaced the SAE threaded barrel adjuster and only have metrics in my junk box... It's for the Weinmann center pulls.

Cool. I wonder if that'll add to it's value. I've had lots of hiduminium spearpoint stems before, and they generally make good money, perhaps this one will make more!

I saw a Cinelli stem on ebay with a cable guide like that. It was a nice stem, with just the amount of extension I was looking for......but then I noticed the cable guide and passed on it, I didn't need the cable guide for the bike I was building up..........And yeah, I've currently got at least two older mountain bikes in my basement with cable guides running through the stem-

Well, most road bikes that you'd put a Hiduminium spearpoint on would have centrepulls, so hopefully it'll be a boon to someone!

i assume most cable stops on stems were added and not produced that way by the stem maker..
they are nice with centerpulls but they can also be a pain..
when you adjust the bar height you change the cable adjustment as well
