Awesome, congrats indeed! :thumb: Looks like a nice low serial # too.

Italuminium 01-22-13 03:10 PM

That's really nice. No angry grandsons?

Oh and chris, those "cobalto" ax brakes are stunning.

"There are a few notable exceptions to the four digit serial number convention of the late 80's. The Nuova Strada, introduced around 1985, sometimes appears with five digit serial numbers. "

Does this make it a late 80's US built Nuova Strada? I read that most of the Nuova Strada's were italian made. Can anyone sort it out?

Nicely done jeffpepperdine.
Looks like a California Masi to me.
Remember to post pics of the restoration project in the different stages.
Are you going to do it yourself or have it done proffessionally?

Superb score, sir. I'm not jealous in the slightest. Nope, not me.

Seriously, that's a really nice one. Remeber rule number one: have fun!

I'm gonna say it before someone else does: The fork's bent and it looks too small for you.:o

jeirvine 01-22-13 03:56 PM

I love seeing finds like this for two reasons:
1. it's great to see somebody get a great bike for cheap.
2. It reminds me what a killer deal looks like, so I'll be less tempted to N+1 on just so-so CL deals.
Congrats.

56cm is ideal for me, and this is a Masi 58cm, which makes it a 56 more or less? Maybe I should measure it. haha.

Holy cow, I didn't realize the serial #s were so complicated, LOL. ;) But after carefully reading through that, and trying to judge the age by physical appearance, I think I agree with you. It's "probably" a Nuovo Strada. I think. ;)

Fantastic score. What I find to be incomprehensible is that no one told the seller what she had. You people are waay too civilized in Canada. :) In SoCal a bidding war would have ensued over that Masi. Congratulations.

Puget Pounder 01-22-13 05:07 PM

I still don't believe that's a Masi. A "MASI" stamp can mean anything.

Kind of.
Nuova Stradas were made in Italy by a contractor for Masi USA based in California.
Not made by Masi of the Vigorelli in Milan.
They were painted in the USA.

Jim Allen of the Cyclesmiths in Vista California may have the original graphics, and would apply them if he did the paint.

PeregrineA1 01-22-13 05:57 PM

Nice, very nice. Congratulations!

canyoneagle 01-22-13 06:51 PM

Nice score, indeed!!!!
The shifters alone would be worth at least $80. You done good, there!

She got tired of it taking up so much room and she called the scrap yard to tow it away. I'm still feeling wounded that I'll never inherit it!!!

Great when the fish actually gets landed in one of these "little old lady" stories :)

Congrats, that's one heck of a find. Were you waiting for someone to jump out and yell "surprise!" while you were closing the deal?

unworthy1 01-22-13 09:03 PM

Yowsa! You got in like Flynn. Congrats!
The BB shell is a Silva...that's all I got...

All NOS. Except the front derailleur which is currently mounted on the frame. This isn't everything that came with the bike; it's all the made the ride home from work. I think these will be going up for sale. If / when I build up the bike, I will most likely use a super record group from another bike I have. Hopefully the sales of these and a few other bits I have will help cover a paint job.

No dice. Well, at least not really. There was an additional box with a few items, which did have an Exage Mountain crank, and derailleurs.

I've heard of that before. Never seen one of them in Canada though. Not unless it was American 100%
So was it considered American or Italian? How did that work with the duties?
Was it stamped with the serial numbers in Italy or the USA?
What is the give away clue?

canyoneagle 01-22-13 10:50 PM

Nice trove of NOS goodies!
