Mannesmann decals?
Hello,
I m looking for some Mannesmann Cro-Mo decals, a mix of blue-red-yellow. Probably from around 1975. Familiar for someone? Thanks! |

Since you know what the colors are, can you post a pic of whatever you have (fragments, scraps)? I guess it might look something like an Oria decal (???) http://italiancyclingjournal.blogspo...-building.html |
Mannesmann Chr-Mo?? Sounds like a group that opens up for the Village People.
Like this? http://img18.allegroimg.pl/photos/or...9/2876778902_3 Looks like an interesting bike but my Russian is a bit week, http://img18.allegroimg.pl/photos/or...9/2876778902_6http://aukro.ua/shosejnik-mannesmann...876778902.html |
Not Russian; German.
Among other things, Mannesman makes aerospace tubing and provide raw tubes to both Columbus & Deda. During the war, Reynolds famously made the injector tubing used in the Spitfire's Merlin engines; Mannesmann did the same for Messerschmitt/ BMW. But wow! I had no idea Mannesmann ever sold bicycle tubesets under their own brand name... |
Yes the tubing (Mannesmann) co. was/is German, but the link for that bicycle built with it is (I think) Ukrainian...it's certainly Cyrillic and I can't read it.
That's more Mannesmann decals on one bike then I've ever seen on the entire Internets, before...so you can bet they are pretty rare. But the company was a big supplier to other tubing names (like Oria) and rumored to have supplied others, too. Diamant was one bicycle brand that made frames from Mannesmann branded tubing |
My apologies; I didn't see the original link (and to be honest this is the first time I've ever seen a Mannesmann decal on a bicycle; beautiful typography, I might add).
Mannesmann is actually kind of a materials-research lab/firm (my dad did some contract telecom work for them back in the '60s); if I recall correctly, they're heavily involved in battery development and currently owned by Nokia. |
The only Mannesmann decals I've seen are relatively modern. I don't remember seeing them on any bicycles during the boom. Maybe only in Europe?
