OT: Vintage & Classic Motorcycle's?
I bought my first motorcycle when I was 10 or 11 and have had 20+ throughout the years but haven't owned one for the last 6 years or so, and BOY, do I have an itch to get a project!!
I started with dirt bikes, then road bikes and have had some vintage Ducati and also Japanese race bikes. I have been (over) thinking about a late 60's Triumph T100R Daytona project...
Anyone on here have the C&V motorcycle bug?
Edit: arrgh on the apostrophe in the title....

My first motorcycle was a '76 Yamaha RD400C. Got totaled out by a cager making a left turn... I really miss that bike. Nowadays, they've reached unobtainium collector status for being so far ahead of their time. And mine was the rare green color to boot! A good example will still bring in over three grand. Even a basket case or one that has been modified will still sell for over $1500...
First production bike with alloy wheels
First production bike with self-cancelling turn signals
First production bike with disc brakes - front and rear
First production bike with a six-speed transmission
I ran Klotz synthetic injector oil, and as such was able to turn down the oil injection pump waaaay down so it didn't smoke at all or foul plugs (the bane of most two-strokes). Mine had 18k miles on it in '82 when I got hit and still started on the first kick, every time. Frame was bent, forks wrapped around the right side of the frame.... I hit the left-tuner hard - at 40mph. I flew over a hundred feet through the air, landing on the pavement. I was laid up for six weeks.
The next season I bought a new '82 Yamaha 550 Seca since it was of similar size and power but I didn't like it as much as the old RD... too much valvetrain noise.
Then I found a deal on a '82 Honda V45 Sabre... V-4 water-cooled, shaft drive 'sport tourer'. Nice bike, but very heavy and top heavy. The old RD weighed in at only 325 pounds, and the Sabre was pushing 700 with the full Hondaline fairing...

I recently parted with this '73 Bonney, which was my main mode of transportation when I was young and utterly invincible.
I rode it with abandon, but then I got a wife, a career, and responsibility.
No regrets though... It served its purpose.

oh boy, here we go.
Here were my two girls back in 1997,
the green one was sold for a prime number back in the day- now the market is softer.
Green one is a 1967 Vespa Super sport 180cc I fully restored
I drove from Baltimore to Knoxville that summer via skyline drive and blue ridge parkway.
the one in front I still own and will hit the market soon,
1961 vespa GS 150cc, about the most beautiful vespa that was ever created.
nut bolt re zinc plated restoration-not a drop of spray can in it.
this was a clients restoration a vespa sold by Sears "Allstate"

My kid sister out in Newport Beach Calif has a Sears Allstate scooter as well... A '62 or '63, IIRC. Uses 'older, left-over' parts from late-'50s Vespa. She also has a vintage '89 Mercedes 560SL... and just recently sold her vintage Fuji road bike...

Started out on a Honda XR-75.
Eventually moved on to a 1976 RM100 and 1973 Honda CB360. (stock photos, all are long gone and cameras weren't invented then)

I have 2 bikes that are probably not quite C&V. I have a 1995 Ducati 900SS/CR with a lot of modifications (non-obvious ones, I'm not a squid) and a 1996 Cagiva Mito 125cc 2-stroke.
These are not my specific bikes, but they look pretty much exactly like these (except my Ducati has black wheels from an 888, and my Cagiva has an aftermarket aluminum exhaust):

Mike...Did we know each other from the Scooter Scene? I was the #1 from Hard Luck SC out of St. Louis...I assume you rode to the VCOA rally in Knoxville. What club did you run with?
Being from Baltimore, I assume you had the "pleasure" of knowing John Stafford?

I always wanted to grab a Mito.
I still have a '93 NSR250 MC21 in the garage, along with a plethora of Vespas and Lammys, and a 2002 Honda VFR800i...I really need to sell some of them!!!

I love old motorcycles. My screen name is derived from my favorite all time motorcycle.

I had a RD 350, a TZ250F (lowboy) and a TD1C so I have always had a soft spot for Yamaha 2 stroke twins!
Love your RD!! Too bad about it's demise

Bicycle Repair Man !!!
First bike was a Honda CB360 just like the one shown previously (in the same blue) and then I owned a 1978 CB750 Supersport that had been tweaked with an 812 big bore kit, K&N filters, and had some drillium work done to the rotors.
That was one amazing bike... the bb kit and cleaner breathing engine would let me run with guys on 900cc bikes, the mileage went in to the mid 50's and I could wrap the 150mpg speedometer after modifying the gearing for higher top speeds.
It was uber reliable over tens of thousands of touring and commuting miles and never ever let me down.
I was out today looking at vintage motorcycles at a vintage motorcycle shop.... the owner has a collection of 60 BSA models and has a great affection for the Honda 450 twins, had numerous Puch made motorcycle, and spent 30 years as a Kawasaki dealer.
I would like to get another CB750...

Bicycle Repair Man !!!
Have eyed up a few Bonnevilles in the past few years... have a friend who got a 1974 T120 in the mid 90's that was still in the packing crate when he found it. It was a real life story of a man who bought the bike of his dreams when he retired and died of a heart attack just before it arrived... his widow kept the bike in it's crate until she sold her home and finally had to sell it.
Less than 1000 T120 models were made in 1974 because of a labour strike which makes them rarer and my friend told the woman that here asking price was too low and paid her double what she was asking as she just wanted the original MSRP.

I have had about or over 500 motorcycles in my life so far ( what we do here with bicycles I used to do with Motorcycles ), most were Japanese enduros or vintage motocross race bikes. I used to own a repair shop and finding old motorcycles in need of work in my area was very easy, most were free or little money at the time ( wish I kept a lot of them). I have only owned one new bike which was a 1998 Honda XR600R, it was stolen from me with only 25 miles showing on the speedometer (along with a 1994 CR500R set up for open class racing) and I found it 3 months to the day later, it was battered & bruised but still running good, the CR500 was never found. I have very few pictures of all the motorcycles I have owned as I didn't own a camera until the late 90's ( or at least that was handy anyway).
A lot of the older Japanese street bikes that have been shown I have owned more then one of, I used to ride a RD350 offroad until it had a total electrical melt down on a trail one day, guess it just couldn't handle the beating I used to put on it.
I have a couple of dirt bikes from when I was a kid still and a friend gave me a 1984 Harley Sportster 1000 last summer ( the last Iron Heads), my dirt bikes are,
1974 Honda CR125m Elsinore
1972 Suzuki TS125 Duster
1977 Kawasaki KD125 , running a 74 KX125 transmission, CDI ignition, Carb & cylinder head.
1979 Honda XR250, Motor is very modified and I am putting it in a 1981 Honda XL250 so I can run it on the street, hopefully by next fall.
1981 Honda XL250
1987 Suzuki 230 Quadrunner
