Rim drillium?
A friend dropped off a pair of Nisi rims he wasn't going to use. We noticed they had been drilled (not through) two places between the eyelets. Have you seen this? Is it stock?

Yes, I've seen that before. It's stock.
I quote from the eminently-informative repechage:

Nisi made a numbr of rim styles over time, the partial drilling was from the factory to aid in bonding the tires well. Some Nisi's had eyelets, some fixed washers, some loose washers, some has serrated sides to aid braking, later the gold anno rims were the earliest avail. Other mfgs. showed anno rims, but the Nisi's were avail. Some were 200 grams.
Martano used flat washers, Nisi often used formed washers, filled with a resin of some sort on the back side. |
Was discussing this with my friend and LBS owner the other day and he mentioned that it was a legit drillium practice.....odd really, the timing I mean.

Just sold some that were exactly the same.

A rim like this one forced me to go from tape to glue: better bonding with glue but the opposite with tape.

its not drillium!
the holes are so you can put the washers in, they require washers under the nipples. I have 2 pairs of the same Nisi rims |
