colin cape question

hello (this is my first post) I have been thinking about building a vintage steel frame bike for a very long time, and there is a colin cape 531 all nervex frame and fork with campy drops for auction that is my size I am thinking about doing all chrome lugs and a gloss black paint scheme
has anyone heard of this builder or if a 531 nervex is a worthy project
thanks any help would be welcome

If you're talking about reynolds 531 tubing and nervex lugs, then yes, those are both signs of a worthy project.

If it's anything like this frame- http://www.bikeforums.net/showthread...lin-Cape-value, I'd say go if you can finance it.

If that auction is enticing you at <$50, be aware that it still has more than two days to go. I'd be surprised if it closed under $200.

yes that looks exactly like the same type of frame ..BUT now on something like this should I try to stay with an original paint scheme or do you think chrome on the lugs with black would be a better option thanks

Chrome accents, lug lining, original vs refurbished, NOS parts, etc, etc - these are all in the realm of personal preference and budget constraints. Your post said you wanted to build up a vintage steel, will it be a regular rider or more of a collector item?

sorry im new to this what I mean is I have a caad4 and if I put a 70s nuovo record groupset on it many would say it would look out of place another example if I took a 70s bianchi and did it up in black and chrome it could be argued that I ruined the bike (plus the locals would shun me) I guess my question should be is this frame set worth the time and money (chrome AINT cheap) to restore

If it has chrome issues and you don't want to spend the cash to restore it, move on. There are a lot of frames out there, just be patient.

Colin Cape is a known builder and that is a quality frame, but I don't see why you'd want to repaint that. Looks good as is to me.
