Help me identify this bike please
3 Attachment(s)
Hi all. Just picked up this bike from a thrift store. Tearing down the bike to reprint the frame as its got a few rust spots.
I'd love to know what bike it is but it has no serial numbers, decals or badging. I have checked every conceivable place and no luck. The wheels are Weinmann 116 alloys. At a total loss of where to start identifying it and was hoping someone could share some light. See pics. Thanks!http://bikeforums.net/attachment.php...hmentid=296928http://bikeforums.net/attachment.php...hmentid=296929http://bikeforums.net/attachment.php...hmentid=296930 |
Hi Rory welcome to the forums. 1st off where are you and the bike? The US Europe? Does this look like the original color? How about a little more information? What components are/were on it? What size is the seatpost and any idea on the bottom bracket threading? Is there anything stamped on the dropouts?
http://www.bikeforums.net/attachment...0&d=1359900382 It looks like it has an OK stem but the crank looks like a lowend model with the chainwheels swedged (pressed) onto the arm. http://www.bikeforums.net/attachment...8&d=1359900256 Where did you check for a serial? Under the BB shell, seat lug area, along the bottom area of the seattube, the dropouts, headlugs? |
Thanks for the feedback. I'm in Cape Town, South Africa.
After sanding down some of the rust patches, I'm pretty certain the paint is original. In terms of components, it's pretty run of the mill. Suntour blaze derailleur. Tracer crank arms with 3-piece chain ring (allen key assembly - can be disassembled). Weinmann 116 alloys. i checked the dropouts as well as other usual serial number hiding places but no markings found. I was hoping the front fork detailing would help as it seems to be slightly different from what I've seen around. That help at all? |
