How To Rebuild a Superior?
Not to rush pastorBobnlnh or anything, but I'm sort of excited to get an "upgrade" from Zoomie to something nearly just like her, but lighter. Problem is, I'm freaking out at the prospect of getting the bones of a bicycle. What do I do with it?
I don't even know how to take mine apart and give it a tune-up. So, I'm asking for a sort of how-to, any advice you guys have, and anything else I might be forgetting. Is there anything I can stock up on now to get ready- such as cleaners or something? Maybe I can start collecting parts, or would that be jumping the gun a bit? Folks like PB spend a lot of time helping others. He does a lot for me and it makes me uncomfortable to see you "call him out" for disappointing you. Ill work on that.

Basicaly, just take the thing apart, clean the pieces and put it back together with fresh lube. Have you got tools? It doesn't take many and the local bike shop will usually help with the tougher ones.

ftwelder, I'm not disappointed at all! I'm being very patient, I just thought maybe I could learn about restoring or rebuilding bikes in the meantime. I also have a craigslist ad in order to look for a bike.
Perhaps I shouldn't have mentioned why I am interested in the information? I thought being specific would help. Thank you for the links. |
That Superior is a cool bike, I really like the fork. It's like sailorbenjamin said, take it apart, clean it and reassemble. It's just that easy, right ;).
My advice, work on one part at a time. White vinegar (soaking) and naval jelly (spot treatment) work great for cleaning up rust. I'm sure that you will need new bearings for the whole bike, brake cables, chain, tubes.... etc. There is a lot, but it's all very easy to learn. Just keep posting us on your questions and you'll get lots of help. |
