1992 Trek 1200 redo
Here's the '92 Trek 1200 I picked up over the summer. What do y'all think?
I added a Bontrager saddle, carbon seat post, Bontrager tires, Cinelli bars, new tape and computer.

Very nice! I've been seeing quite a few Trek 1000's and 1200's that catch my eye lately, but I've never owned one. I think there may be one in my future if I can find one with the wild neon paint in my size.

Nice bike - I have a 1200 with pink decals and put a Nashbar carbon fork on it for that additional coolness factor.

Nice work! FWIW, I have done better price wise on that vintage aluminum Trek than I have done on similar steel Treks. While many of us on this forum (me included) are fans of steel, I have found the average bike buyer prefers a lighter aluminum frame bike.

Thanks everyone. I'm very please with not only how it turned out but also how well it rides. I have a nice carbon Fuji, but I ride this one more now.

I've been using that exact bike for the last two years, although mine had some "touring" upgrades such as a triple front crankset, bar end shifters and upgraded brakes. My biggest complaint is that I couldn't put on tires larger than 28mm (and the reach is a little long for me with the stock stem - 58cm.) Yours looks much nicer.

I have an '89 white 1200 sitting in my workshop right now that has been my "next" project for too long. You've just provided me with some new motivation to get to it. Nice job.

I just picked up a 92 1200 in almost perfect condition. I bought it from the original owner with the owners manual and receipt along with bunch or other stuff. Definitely the best aluminium bike I've owned, though it is also only the second. I might post some pictures tomorrow.
On March 4th, 1992 my bike was purchased new for $622.41 in Saginaw, Michigan.

I can't currently find my camera, so the only pictures are crappy cell phone pics like in the catch of the day thread. Once I find it I'll post some.

This is my lady friends bike the day I picked it up for her. Hard to find one that fit her but this one did.
I bought some Tekro "Junior" levers for it Im gonna be installing since shes got little hands. It looks better now but this is the only pic I have of it.

I've got an '89 (black with magenta decals) on the bench as we speak. Picked it up with some serious paint damage (moisture got under the paint, peeling it off), but in running condition. Rode it for a couple of days, loved the way it handled, then started taking it apart. Hint: If moisture has gotten under the paint, you can imagine what it does to threads and fasteners. Got everything down and cleaned, am currently in week two with PB Blaster on the frozen stem. Once that's out, pull the headset and it's off to the powdercoaters. Already have a set of replacement decals waiting. Hopefully will have it on the road by mid summer, once I get the '79 PX-10 done.

I have a very similar bike, I think it may be from 1990 or '91. I need to replace the front fork. The frame is 56cm. Do you know the dimensions etc that I need to look for if I purchase the fork unseen?
Thanks
Thanks

That bike deserves nicer tires. In other words, it's a really nice bike.
