I haven't lost any weight, I've just gained a lot of bicycles. Get out now while you still can.

Nor intelligence, unless you're co-shilling here.
Really man?

Too late, already had substantial damage, possibly structural from the looks of it.

I think it's a bargain. Provided it comes with a lifetime supply of 18-year-old virgins and a $41,900 Velo Orange gift certificate.

In those circumstances, I want it BADLY.

Your wonderfully apropos joke just reminded me of Bob Saggett, when he was still young, hungry and had a promising (pre-sellout) standup career ahead of him:

"I used to come home every night and say to my girlfriend, 'I want to make love to you badly', and she always replied, 'Yeah well, at least you don't overestimate yourself.'"

You can buy a new spacelander for a lot less. I think a guy in Boston owns the tooling and name. I may be mistaken.

Gary Fountain 02-19-13 04:20 AM

Hi justdon, keep posting.

sailorbenjamin 02-19-13 04:24 PM

I bet he'd let you have the tooling and the name for $43,000.
Oh, and to reiterate advice I've given previously, don't do a google image search for "naked redhead on bowden spacelander".

chrismorg 02-19-13 04:26 PM

a fool and their money

John E 02-19-13 05:38 PM

Does anyone know how many of those things were made, and how many survive?

sailorbenjamin 02-19-13 05:43 PM

40 or 50 I think.

Upon actually reading the eBay listing, I found the claim that about 550 were made. Did you mean to say that about 10% of these have survived?

Since Otto Cap reportedly exported only about 400 bikes to the U.S. circa 1960, I arguably have something (actually two somethings) as rare as as Spacelander. :)

Velognome 02-19-13 06:12 PM

I'd buy it! Hell ya!!!

Then dremel all that plastic off it and make a fixie :thumb:

$1000 shipped? Where, low earth orbit?

If they are shipping using what is called a fine art shipper (common with museums), then this amount isn't that crazy assuming the cost includes good packaging. I doubt that is what would be happening here.

I have. I bought a 1972 PX10 at their store in Madison for 300$. It was, however, in the years before they discovered the richies to be had on ebay-- around ten years or so back.

No I just don't know much.

sailorbenjamin 02-19-13 11:21 PM

Hey, what happened to the OP? I hope we didn't scare him off.

Burt Ratan will deliver it with a man powered pedal plane.

Good grief, haven't laughed that hard in days...

Drop it to $420, and I'll have my brother pick it up, with gritted teeth.

Welcome to the forum. No offense, BBC has a "history," shall we say. You just came in late on the sarcasm.

The only way to lose weight with the type of bikes on this forum is to spend your food money on one and only one bike and you ride it from dumpster to dumpster, looking for something to eat. Really.

Once you get caught up in this N+1 culture, you'll gain great wrenching skills and wish you rode more.

That being said, it's been done, so good luck and glad to have you.

One of our members is a fine art shipper. She also sent me a frame, packed like art.
