Rare

Would anyone here like to own this?

roadrunner2012 02-18-13 04:51 PM

No one here would likely buy from BBC.

Doohickie 02-18-13 04:56 PM

There's a reason this style of bike didn't become popular: It's ugly.

ftwelder 02-18-13 05:02 PM

I was thinking about making one, replacing the fiberglass with carbon and making all the zinc plated steel parts out of 'luminum. I only then it dawned on me, treck makes one already. I think they won the tour de france with it a couple of years with a fella named lars riding it.

sailorbenjamin 02-18-13 05:35 PM

Somebody should buy this @#$%&*ed bike so people will stop posting about it.
I guess a drone strike on the BBC would have the same affect.

KonAaron Snake 02-18-13 05:38 PM

I know some think it's iconic, but it looks like an ugly, bloated, bulbous POS to me.

20grit 02-18-13 05:38 PM

Two posts... maybe it's a shill.

cyclotoine 02-18-13 05:39 PM

It's certainly an interesting piece, but I would not like to own it.

The regulars on this forum like bicycles as functional art and love to ride our bikes. That bike is not at all practical and is for a collector of unique items of curiosity. Most of us here want bicycles that were made as a tool and not as an art experiment.

rootboy 02-18-13 05:42 PM

I can go 34 K. Max.

I agree.

I don't think it is iconic. A Schwinn Paramount of an orange early 1970s colnago super are iconic.

That is from an iconic era and made in an iconic style reminiscent of automobiles of the era, but the bike itself is not an icon.

IMHO of course.

repechage 02-18-13 06:32 PM

A Spacelander (white is pretty darn good shape) sold at the Copake Auction late last year for $12,000. It had an estimate of $4,000 to $5,000.
There is a market but not a $42,000 dollar market.

I agree there seems to be something fishy.

As for the bike, I agree it is a cool icon of the Jet aga a space race era but not for $43,000 dollars. For $1000 shipping I hope it is white glove delivered anywhere.

Sailor Ben where can I get a pair of those SPD pumps?

BTW this is a much better deal at only 7 grand

BluesDaddy 02-18-13 06:45 PM

$1000 shipped? Where, low earth orbit?

Burt Ratan will deliver it with a man powered pedal plane.

frantik 02-18-13 07:07 PM

I would like to own that fillet brazed Ross they have for sale, but not for $17k or whatever

Scooper 02-18-13 07:12 PM

Rare ≠ valuable. Besides, the "look" hasn't aged well at all.

ilikebikes 02-18-13 07:17 PM

If I had the cash I would def buy it! No shame in my game!

I think I would want to fly the plane that made the drop. See it go with my own eyes and not through a video feed.

Hi, Justdon. Welcome to the C&V forum! Bunch of nice folks here.

You didn't offend anyone. (That bike did though! But then, you didn't invent that bike so you weren't responsible. :))

Nah, it's just that that bike has shown up before, and truth be told it's, ah, different. But otherwise not very interesting except for it being so different. From a technology standpoint there were much better bikes being made. So that one would appear to be a case of style over functionality, not a good choice for a bike.

But that's just my opinion.

No dude, its a sweet bike, and if I had the cash it would be mine! but then again I'm the oficial (unofficial) Schwinn lovin' "black sheep" of the C and V family. :D

cb400bill 02-18-13 08:04 PM

Justdon,

Don't sweat it. The seller of that bike is known around these parts for their outrageous vintage bike pricing. Then the trickle down is that other sellers see those overpriced bikes and use that as a selling point for their overpriced bike sales.

The typical ad is something like "These bikes are on Ebay for $2500 and I'm only asking $1000 for mine" when market price for their bike is really more like $99 or so. This makes many, me included, dislike that seller. A lot.

Stick around. Read and learn. Join in a discussion when you want to. Its all good.

Peace

justdon 02-18-13 08:09 PM

Thanks i thought i had comitted an unforgivable sin..
