Please help me find #269271 1987 (not 1986) Trek 1000 52cm black/silver sunburst
In 2009 I purchased an '86 Trek 1000 off of CraigsList and have been using it as my commuter all over Kansas City, MO. Just this past February I took a trip to Sacramento, CA and just happened to find another one on CraigsList with the same exact color and size. The frame size is 52cm, rear dropout spacing is 126mm.
Upon closer inspection I found that the serial number on my original bike was 269270 and the bike I picked up in Sacramento was numbered 269272. All the parts on my original bike were dated 1987 however Trek catalogs I've found online list the black/silver sunburst color scheme as a 1986 model year. Vintage-trek.com states that the serial numbers were issued to these bikes sequentially during these years. [Looks like I got the year wrong. It's a 1987 model year bicycle. Thanks IthaDan.]
The search is now on for a Trek 1000 with a serial number of 269271. I imagine that the color scheme would be the same black/silver sunburst pattern although I wouldn't be surprised if it happened to have a different color scheme. I would be eternally grateful for any help in finding 269271 so I can build up a bike for my brother and another for my sister. Thanks for your help.

OP, that's pretty amazing that you located bike "brothers" like this - and 2,000 miles apart at that! Do you have any idea if your bike was originally sold here in Kansas City? In other words, is there a bike shop sticker on either frame to give you some sense for their original point of sale? Maybe - and this is a really big maybe - if you could figure that part out then it's possible you might advertise in that city's CL ads. I see you're from Gladstone and I recall a ton of Treks around here in the Kansas City Northland during the eighties. I suppose it's possible that brother number three is right here in town.
I'm rooting for you, man!

That's an amazing story. Just this past week, "this american life" did a whole episode on coincidences. It's a good listen, well worth the hour. You should write in for the next one.
Looks like it was indeed a 1987. "Grey metallic to black fade" was the color- https://www.vintage-trek.com/Trek-Fis...d/1987trek.pdf

Both bikes were already third or fourth hand by the time I bought them and neither had any bike shop stickers even though they still had the cro-mo stickers on the forks. Hmm, I coulda swore I spotted the bike description in an '86 catalog but that was quite a while ago. I'll post an ad in the KC and Kansas CraigsLists and see if anything turns up. If it happens to be there somewhere it's gonna be a challenge to pick it up, though. I'm out on Oahu, HI and that's gonna be quite a drive, hehe. A quick web search found one owned by Velo Vortmax and I'm anxiously waiting for him to contact me. Thanks for the support, guys!
