had an old poor fitting carbolite pug mixte once she rode like the dickens but i paid $30 is this worth $250 hmmm...lets see what the others think |
this looks like he took a frame and built it up with expensive parts, i can't tell what it is.. .hopefully somebody will, 250 is dirt cheap tho, im sure i could get that in parts alone..

Frame seems a cheap model, stamped not forged drop outs.

"Aztec" lugs on the HT, nice paint but no decals, long chainstays. Probably a repainted UO8, in what looks like an original 70's Peugeot color. It looks quite nice and probably rides nicely too. With those upgraded parts it's a good bike. Will never be a 23lb screamer but still nice. Ride it and enjoy!

That's a really, really cool U08.
Looks like someone added some MA40 hoops, better hubs, nice Universal brakes, and some Campagnolo bits for themselves (Record derailleurs, GS (?) crank-set, pedals and then decided to sell. - I'd look hard at the repaint, but frankly you couldn't buy the parts for $250, nor could you buy a better riding frame - even if it is high ten. If all is well with the paint job, all it would need is a better saddle and new bar tape, and maybe some aftermarket Pug decals. |
I can vouch for a UO-8 with aluminum rims and cranks being a surprisingly nice ride, but I don't know if I would pay $250. (I have less than $100 invested in mine, courtesy of eBay and my own parts bin.)

Over the years, starting long ago when I could afford wheel upgrades but not a whole 'nother bike, I gradually upgraded my UO8 with wheels, crank, seatpost, handlebar, saddle, derailleurs, toe clips/straps. That helps offset the weight of the rack, generator and lights. It's a great bike.

Worth every penny of $250. Here in SoCal standard old UO8's are on CL for $250.

Looks like a nice U08 - for the Campy bits and nice wheels - yeah $250 is ok, go for it.

It'll get picked up once spring fever hits if you don't move on it... I don't think it's a bad deal for the parts and they are lovely riders.

Campy Record brake levers? Cranks, pedals, derailleurs. Worth it for the parts alone.

Buy it, transfer the bits to a better frame if you want, in the meantime it should be a sweet ride.

From my experience, the frame does not steer as well with skinny 700c's as it does with fat 27's, such as the original 1 1/4". I have one that will probably get 38c x 700 when I get my act together on it. With the fatter tires it steers with slower response but more neutrally - somewhat like a low-trail 42b x 650 Hetre bike. But guess what! The UO-8s do have rather low trail. |
UO8 delicate? I guess that's why there are so few of them around.

There are many around because there were so many around when they were made and sold. I don't mean to disrespect them, because they ride great in their price class. But delicate is a fair word. They bend more easily than most others. That's what happens when you use ordinary steel and with relatively thin-walled tubes. I think it was a good decision, though, because it was lighter than its competitors, and as long as you didn't crash, it held up just fine. If you've ever straightened one, you'll remember how surprisingly easy it was to bend. |
UO-8 - What a nice ride - Last time I went to a bike shop 250$ was chump change...
