Yay! It's back!
A couple of months ago I traded this for a laptop, because I was in dire need a of computer that worked! Never again! This is a keeper from now on. It rides like a dream, and fits me like a custom build. 1985 Columbus Tenax Schwinn Super Sport. Orange pearl powdercoat, and a Complete Sante group from my Ex's bike. I bought it a Specialized polished alloy frame pump, to make up for trading her. Skinwall Paselas are in the near future!,,,,BD
I might have been tempted to add fenders, but it has no mounts for anything other than cables or bottle cages. http://i114.photobucket.com/albums/n...r/DSCN4543.jpg |
Nice looking bike.

The frame pump, though I paid a fraction of this price. Our full price on this pump is $10 less!,,,,BD

Let me get this straight - the bike was once your property - you sold it - then you traded a laptop to get it back. I get it. No laptop could possibly be more important than a bike that feels like it fits like a glove. I reckon it was a great deal for you...
The shiny new pump was a nice 'I'm sorry' gift. Zip ties are great at fitting fenders. A very nice story bikedued. |
I had a 1986 Super Sport a while back. Sold it to my daughter's boyfriend. They are very solid bikes.

I love my 87 SS. I understand your emotion completely !http://bikeforums.net/attachment.php...hmentid=305133

The later Super Sports are underrated bikes no doubt. Panasonic made I believe? This one originally had Shimano 600EX, and friction shift IIRC?,,,,BD

Sounds like you traded your ex for the bike. Was it worth it?

Shimano 600 SIS. I should have never sold it. http://i1128.photobucket.com/albums/...ramedamage.jpg http://i1128.photobucket.com/albums/...exshifting.jpg |

The pump is actually awesome too. I hooked it up to one of the prestas with the tire already full. I actually could effectively add more pressure, without having the 1/2" stroke of actual pumping syndrome. So, unlike some mini pumps made for bottle cage mounting, it works!,,,,BD
The only bad part is that I don't carry an extra tube or levers usually. I will have to remedy that. |

Mine has a s/n on the lower head lug, right against the lower headset cup. I was always told that for certain meant it was a Panasonic build? Panasonics have the s/n stamped in the same style? Is this a myth?,,,,BD

Oh man.....

My 87 Super Sport has no S/N on the lower headlug. It is instead on the underneath of the BB and the Schwinn 4 digit number on the headbadge.
How does that fit into the scheme here ? |
That sure is a beautiful bike, and I'm glad that you two are reunited . I've got to agree, late 80's Schwinns are underrated.
|
Never say never. I bought back one I should never have sold, and I said it was now a keeper. Less than a year later I sold it again. The word keeper in the bike world can be relative.
If it turns up again at the right price I would buy it again. |
