Ours loved regular Greenie treats, but he only fell for the pill pockets once. When I gave him the pill pocket, I do recall it seemed like it could be a problem with texture, not necessarily flavor. Like he smelled it and it smelled ok, so he got it in his mouth and then he really didn't like what he had, so he swallowed it whole and was licking the inside of his mouth with his abrasive tongue for a minute or two after. And I remember remarking that the pill pockets felt "gooey" in my hands. I think they're often old because they're niche items and stock doesn't move fast, and they may dry out in the bag, which doesn't help

I do recall them being overpriced, also!
If it's a total fail (and it might not be!), many pet stores have return policies for reason: "my cat doesn't eat it". Or if you can't do that, donate them to your local humane society

Keep us posted - I feel like we're all holding our breath for the next step in this saga!

I think she was an Abyssinian-American Shorthair mix - either that or just an Ur-throwback to Egyptian temple cats. She truly DID know that cats were worshipped as gods in Ancient Egypt, and she NEVER forgot it.

She loved Fig Newtons and would always insist on having one whenever I bought them. She would eat one and she would be content - until the next time I bought a pack. And she would cry out and climb up my trouser leg for a bite of Lebanon bologna whenever I bought the stuff.

I had to learn how to pop a pill into a cats mouth, my Maine Coon needed 5 pills every morning.

First get out the first aid kit with band aids and wipes. Then we blocked them into a corner of the kitchen counter. That meant they knew right away this wasn't going to be good. Then we grabbed them firmly and with attitude around the head, pill in hand. Then we pried open the little SOB's mouth, usually getting bit a few times in the process. Then we eventually popped the pill deep down their throat, then clamped their jaw shot and kept it shut a minute while they struggled to get away. You then blow on their face, it's supposed to make them swallow. . We would then watch closely a few minutes to see where they wandered off to so as to spit out the pill. If you get it far enough down the throat, they cannot spit it out. Clean wounds and apply band aids.

Hiding pills in food never worked, they just ate around the pill.

mission accomplished 6am
daughter wanted to do it so she put on some disposable gloves which she washed afterwards and can re-use
pill in pocket, squished it & trimmed some excess
cat ate it, didn't seem to lick as much as yesterday but was def. doing more licking than after eating some other treat



the pocket has the consistency of Play-Doh & there's so much left over after trimming the excess, there is probably enough to coat another pill. the wrapped pill is on the left


as a reward & to help the pill go down, daughter gave her some semi-liquid treat the Vet gave her after her last visit
also got her to drink some water

ok off to work!

I never heard of the blowing. I learned to run my finger down their neck repeatedly, from under their chin downward, to get them to swallow.

I think one of my vet's told me that, might have been an old wife. I know the finger on neck trick as well. I'm just glad all my cats are currently medicine free.

It saddens me to say that they are no longer with this household. Barely two days after she brought them over, my wife's friend asked to have Diamond back (Diamondback?) 😄 because she missed her too much. Another lady hit my wife up for Charlie because her Scotch fold had been feeling lonely and needed a companion.

Which is good, seeing as how we're trying to "cull the herd," so to speak; we might be leaving the house - maybe even the country - for an extended period of time soon, so we want to make sure that everyone is safe and in good company before we set out.

He did! He is an exceptional cat (all of ours are..), and he just wanted to hang out - all forgiven . No harm done as verified during compulsory inspection.

6:15 AM local time... Snickers is in the process of dropping her first litter right now! Stay tuned for descriptions and the final tally (three so far...)

Even though we had prepared a room for her to give birth in complete seclusion and privacy from the other cats, sge caught us by complete surprise! We're scrambling to get her as comfortable as possible so we could move her over after she finishes.

I'll say! It's well into the afternoon and I've been up all night and through the morning trying to keep her from eating them (which she almost did!) I had to lay her on her side and put them, one by one, in her lap and show her how to nurse them until she got the hang of it...


And Grandma isn't any help, either...
