How many felines do you see? (Hint: it's more than two and fewer than three

I’ve been leaving the A/C at 72* so the poor guy doesn’t overheat! He’s lying in direct Florida sunlight! Siri told me that a cat’s temperature is about 102*! So they actually store their energy and use the sun to stay at that temperature! Also breaks down an oil produced when they are in the sun to create vitamin D3, which they in turn ingest when they groom their fur! Hmph! How ‘bout that! Glad I asked!

We lost our Harry on Wednesday. Nearly 18, and we'd had him since he was a tiny 6-week-old spud. I desperately wish I could say it was an easy death, but at least he's not suffering any more. RIP, Butthead. We'll never forget you.
I'm terrible at taking pics, and Harry had a habit of running away when a camera was pointed at him, so here he is when he was wee. And a quickie when he was relaxed. Crap. I need to cry again.

Six weeks! Hello, little Harry!

Blep! About 16. Our Butthead.

One year after her death, scattered her ashes today into a local waterway, near where she was found and rescued 13 years ago. R.I.P. Cookie, we miss you. A sweet and loving cat, also a bit of a koo-koo as Ive since learned Calicos can be. Good memories though,

yesterday, 1 minute before my alarm goes off, I wake after having a dream & hearing 1 cat meow. mind you, the cat that hangs on the 2nd fl, near our bedroom doesn't meow, it screeches. the single meow & dream was me waking to feed 3 cats, trotting to their bowls, in front of me, but the 3rd was a young black cat. we lost an older black cat several months ago. in my dream, as I was talking to the black cat, asking it where it came from, it looked at me, then trotted off, as I asked where are you hiding? no exterior doors were open, so it couldn't come & go from outside. then I got up from bed & went downstairs to the usual 2-cat morning routine. was it a visitation from our late, 3rd, black cat? I like to think so. dreams are so funny. also funny that it woke me 1 minute before my alarm went off
But he was still alive at the time. I joked later with my mom about how he'd maybe figured out astral travel. It never happened again, though.
"also funny that it woke me 1 minute before my alarm went off"
Mine knows 15 minutes. They also wake me (or occasionally my wife) at 5 'ish AM to be fed, so OK, they've trained us, didn't help that early on with the kittens my wife was awake at 3:30; leaving the house at 4:30 so they all got fed early. I guess 5-5:30 AM is the compromise.
But cats have a sense of time for sure. Not sure if its an empty stomach, don't think so, it's something else, but they know within 10 minutes when it's 4PM and time for the evening meal. They know when it's time for Dad to get off the couch and go upstairs to go to bed. Lately, my 19 year old as well as the 8 mos. old kittens are waking me at 7-7:30, 2 hours after I've fed them, meowing at me (19 yr. old) or playing Jets vs. Sharks on my legs in bed. Mostly as the kittens want me to go downstairs with them so they can run around for an hour. They cannot seem to do this by themselves, they need me out of bed and eating breakfast to accomplish this.

My last cat had a "snooze" function... she'd come in and mew at me for food, and I'd say, "It's not time to get up yet; come snuggle," so she'd lie down next to me for a while, then a bit later it was "mew" again.
The current one is pretty good about it too. He'll lie down next to me, and I think it's less because he wants to snuggle and more that he wants to make sure I don't forget I have a kitty who needs breakfast... not sure if he's just polite, or somewhat passive-aggressive.

cats are great company. losing them is devastating. we lost our 2nd in 5 months w/ one sibling left. hoping we get another year with him. I don't know if I could go thru this process again. don't even have the strength to post a reply about our recent loss yet, but I will. you have my sympathies. here's wishing you the best memories

the cat we just lost, on at least two separate occasions let herself back into the house without anyone opening a door. I swear to God. the first time I thought it was true but had some doubts. the 2nd time a few years later, there was ZERO doubt. she definitely got back in by cat magic

I finally got smart and put my cats birthdays into my calendar last year, so I didn't miss their 14th birthday yesterday.

You guys. If the cops are knocking on your door at some point because I died from all these cute kittens, you only have yourselves to blame... (but for the love of Bastet, don't stop posting them!!).
...I'm surprised you were allowed to live, having accidentally found out one of the feline secrets...

Ditto is a ham ball and definitely is one of a kind. Sadly we just lost our sweet Valentine after 19 years. She was a sweet as she looked. We have been lucky being owned by some great cats over the years.

I love how Valentine looks in that first picture as if she doesn't even have legs... just a sprawl of fur with a head... (Ditto, OTOH, clearly doesn't care what he does with his...)
We also had a cat who liked to lie on her back, though with her legs different than ditto (she was also black-and-white, though). She "taught" one of our other cats to do it-- he never did it until he saw her doing it long enough.
