My wife's first marriage went the same way - all she wanted to take was her cat. She lost all of the considerable amount of money that she put into the house she and her ex were in the process of building. She didn't want the hassle of trying to get anything else - she wanted OUT! He was a physical and mental abuser.

Bicycle Repair Man !!!
My ex wanted to keep the dogs and did for a while... problem was that they loved me way more than her and hated her new husband.

One time, she back-handed Pulcina for being vocal. Then her younger son did the same to it when it got near him. Monkey see, monkey do! I was quite alarmed by the whole incident. But neither of them found my objections valid.
It was a sign. I made excuses and didn't accept the reality. :-/
The cats definitely trust me more. Cicciolina only lies on my lap and sleeps. At least the older son couldn't hit the cats. They got along with him well too.

Cougrrcj,
Thanks for posting that info about your wife.....made me recall. And helped me realize if I have a chance to get my cats, I will fight for them. They are still better off with me, than her. Even though they are among the familiar, they are still subjected to the possibility of physical abuse. If I can't care for them, at least I can find a good home for them.

^ Willard is a handsome devil. I really like it when I see pics of cats in this position. A sign of trust and affection.

Sacha doesn't have that problem.
This pic is proof you don't need art if you have a cat

Someone definitely wants her belly scratched:

noglider - thank you she is quite wonderful. Max is just over 20lbs, not a super chunk, but he is rather big overall. I love the side by side with my daughter, it really gives you an idea of how big he is.(she's 3 years old btw)

And here are my other cats, named Caster and Camber. I work at a factory that manufactures suspension products for trucks, muscle cars, RVs, etc and one day a bunch of tiny kittens showed up and were keeping warm under the furnaces. I got guilted into taking three of them home, Ackerman ran away within the first few weeks but these two ladies are still here over a year later.

I am a little mad at these 2 right now. Both of them have shown their abilities to be mousers in the past, but I had to use a mouse trap to catch 2 mice that were living in the rafters of the basement.
Fred is 15 so he gets a little bit of a pass, but Ethel is only 4. I may need to cut back on the cat treats to get her motivation back.
