Two cats:
This is Edgar (named for Edgar Allen Poe), or Egger usually. He's a cat-lovers' cat. He can't get enough attention and actually likes to wrestle with humans. He's FIV+ (which is basically identical to HIV), but has been healthy for several years now. He was somehow living in the wild as a < 1 year old cat and broke both hind legs, and managed to stay alive long enough for them to heal (not as they should exactly) and to find our house.

This one is Shelley (named for Mary Shelley). She was born on St. Patrick's day and is only about the size of a 8 month old kitten. She's Edgar's best friend.

Homeless cats and even domestic cats on the street have such a terrible time - so many dangers - from cars, disease, other animals... It is good that he found a good home with you and Shelley. I wish every cat could be saved.

She has good taste. I also like the reverse-action FD's.

My sister has the short haired version of that cat. The markings and blue eyes are something else! Kit Carson fooled me. He had blue eyes when he was a small kitten, and they slowly changed to normal yellow after about 3-4 months.,,,,BD

Our cat from China, Mei mei, had the most intense and beautiful eyes of any cat I've seen when she was a kitten. Almost a metallic cantaloupe orange with lime green rim around her irises. They've lightened up some to a more normal yellowish orange, but are still striking.

He was somehow living in the wild as a < 1 year old cat and broke both hind legs, and managed to stay alive long enough for them to heal (not as they should exactly) and to find our house.
This is my "Scruffy" - Also FIV. He's had some bad times this past winter. Had three mouth surgeries for an infection of the bone in the joint of the mandible (jaw). (Mouth problems are very common in FIV cats) He was in the intensive care at our Vet for one whole month (January 2014) with a feeding tube in his neck, pain patches on his shaved leg, and a mild sedative. One Saturday I was visiting him and it looked really bad for him. She suggested that we consider putting him down.. We talked about it, she said a few more days wouldn't hurt just to see what happened as she was frantically researching the latest FIV treatments and trying different antibiotic cocktails etc... I left there a total wreck that day.
She called the next Wednesday to tell me that he was unreal improved. Told me to be cautiously optimistic but it was looking like he would live. (He was starving to death because his mouth pain was so bad he couldn't eat. It got to the point where he was actually afraid of food. This is the reason for the feeding tube into the esophagus to give him powerful nutrients and a good way to get the antibiotics into him as well.)
So, a photo from two days ago. He eats like a pig, has not very many teeth left. Getting fat, super happy. He loves me to no end and after this near death experience, I see each day as a gift. He is about seven years old and was a completely wild feral Tom who lived in a junk car behind my warehouse. Hasn't spent a night outside since the summer of 2009 when he was neutered and began to be the super good shop cat that he is to this day.
This was his third round of mouth problems in the past three years, and as he gets antibiotics frequently we know he will eventually run out of treatment options. For now, his white count is excellent, he goes to the vet every month or six weeks for a check-up and is loving life. It is what it is.. I would rather not talk about what this cat has cost me... But he is a super-star at the vet. They all love him and he has been a good patient and a good source of research for them on FIV treatment. So, they have been very fair with me about the charges. In fact, much too kind for which I am very grateful.
