Big Foot and Yeti have joined our hacienda.
There is some controversy about Big Foot's name, as I also like Niner, but the family ultimately rules these decisions.
Our beloved cat Orbit passed in January and the house wasn't the same without him.
When I noticed the ad for these guys, we raced down to southern Minnesota to collect them.
It was meant to be. The fellow re-homing them restores vintage Italian racing bicycles and 60s Vespas and 70s dirt bikes like Montesas.
So I ended up with seal point and flame point Siamese teenagers and a Montesa trials bike that will be ready in June or so.
Here are the guys!!
btw I had forgotten how much mischief these fellows can get into in a short amount of time. I'll have some curtains to repair this weekend.

Six toes per foot means four wheel drive over my wife's leather furniture. I have to cover everything with horse blankets to protect it.

Previous cat, Mao, and then Noelle and Shadow, hanging out on the screen porch. Noelle and Shadow use the porch more than we do. All 3 rescues. Shadow was well over 18 lbs when we got her, now down to 12 lbs. We only feed them twice a day, defined portions of about 20 to 25 grams per serving plus all the water they want.
Mao had thyroid problems and went in for radiation treatment. Made it through the treatment sort of OK, but then failed to thrive. We had them put him to sleep because the only thing that *might* have helped was bringing him home for lots of hugs and brushes (long hair). Due to the high dose radiation exposure, the cat was considered a radiation risk / source for up to 10 days. We could have only stay with him for 30 or 60 minutes a day (IIRC) per person, so that would mean 22+ hours of solitary confinement no matter where he was. He just too sick and we couldn't put ourselves at risk by violating radiation protocol to give him the care we thought would be needed - and that was a low percentage chance at survival anyway.
I know some people would have taken the risk and I understand that. Both my wife and I were always taught to not mess with radiation. Burning building, I could probably do that. Been trained in that. Radiation on the other hand, stay away.

I'm a bit confused by all these references to cats being good "mousers" or good at "hunting rats." Do cats really bother with that kind of small prey?

My outdoor cat Winnie (aka Winnie Boo) is a good mouser, ratter, lizarder, bug hunter, birder, etc. I swear I am going to have a buy her a mini fridge pretty soon
. She's only 8-9 pounds, but makes up for it with attitude and stealth.,,,,BD
I think the only thing that trumps her, is the hawk that's been hanging around the neighborhood the last year or so.

If I let her, I imagine so. I've found half a mouse on more than one occasion, and piles of feathers with no other evidence. I've witnessed at least two bird catches/kills in person, so she is entirely capable. Who knows how many I haven't witnessed?,,,,BD
