My wife and I have 2 gray tabbies and two dogs. No shortage of fur in this house. My approach to adopting animals is to let the universe pick them for me, so I don't specifically look for a particular breed or color. We have a gray domestic shorthair, a grey domestic medium hair, a 55-pound heinz 57 red dog, and a 15-pound miniature pinscher, all of whom are hard luck stories.

But I do have a soft spot for black cats.

Would you dare to touch this cat? I most certainly would not. At least I would not rub his belly.

We had a cat like that way back; was nicknamed "The Vulture".

Our newest member. We call him General Lee because of his grey coat. My wife fed him at a cat colony for a few months and noticed his ear wasn't clipped along with the fact that he meowed at her. Feral cats don't talk, so she new he was abandoned. She trapped him and gave him to a contact who took care of him physically. He had 14 broken teeth so all of them were removed. He eats like a horse and it is nice that he can't hurt when he gets in one of those playful moods and bites.

He is exceptionally loving and doesn't let any of the other two cats get in his way, climbing nearly on top of them to get in the lap of choice. Follows around like a puppy and talks with a gravely, growling voice, unlike when he was in the wild.

We were disappointed at how much they clipped his ear. This is done for cats that have been TNR - Trapped Neutered Released. We didn't know if he could be domesticated so had the typical procedure done.

When you see "wild" cats, look for the clipped ear to know if they have been neutered. Contrary to popular opinion, Smithsonian included, feral cats do not have an impact on birds as they are the last resort in the food chain selection process. They certainly keep the rodent population down!
