The cats are probably amazed that their owners can actually sleep so many hours a night!!!

Latte is out hunting now, I think.

I live in a remote rural area and this little guy was born and raised totally wild here. He wasn't surviving though so though I'd try befriending him. He's totally dependant on me for survival now but can only touch him while he's eating. He'll come inside my home and always here so hopefully he'll become more trusting in older age. He's much healthier now I've been feeding him and had a flea treatment. I'll always make sure he's looked after.

find it surprising how some kitties enjoy being petted whilst dining

had a friend whose companion enjoyed it so much he would purr during eating if petted

jbchybridrider - You have a feral cat there. My wife does TNR (Trap, Neuter, Release) which is very effective at controlling the cat population. you can identify them by a clipped ear. You can see on Shelby in my last pic. We kept one from a kitten and it took nearly 2 years for it to become friendly. We still can't pick her up but she snuggles and loves to be petted. Totally intimidated by Shelby! If the can was full grown when you found it, likely it was abandoned by someone. Feral cats do not like people. They do like to be fed by them and will watch but not come near. They also do not meow after about 8 weeks old. The hiss and growl but don't meow.
I would suggest you neuter it to control local population.
Good on you for taking care of him. More people need to be sensitive to the cat population, unlike Australia that has an open season on any cat. TNR has proven (data available) to be effective.
This is Daphnie, our feral born kittie:

When I was young, we had "Wilee". He'd come to the porch of a handout, and apparently taught our kitten that mice were something to eat, not to play with, but I don't think we ever touched him.

On the other hand, I have Latte that adopted me last fall. I don't know her history, but she showed up on my back porch as a little fluff-ball and was calling out to me, and responding to my voice, but when I looked, she vanished and couldn't be seen... until she got a full belly, and then it was all over.

It is hard to say, she could have been full feral, or people talk about dumped pets, or perhaps simply she ran away or got lost.

Inside, I can pick her up anywhere.

Outside... she is FREE... and runs very fast.

Her comfy-zone is stuffed inside of my coat.

Ever since that first day she called to me, she has been very vocal. She greets me with a short Prrrp. She plays with the window shade to go out, but gives a quiet meow to come back in. And, she'll tell me... very LOUDLY if she is annoyed. I lost her on April 1... until the evening of the 2nd when I was calling, and she would faintly reply. I eventually found her stuck in the basement. Boy was she happy to be found again.

She has a mind of her own, but she is a very even tempered cat, and travels very well.

Here is her album:
https://www.bikeforums.net/g/album/15055247

The window picture is her first day coming inside.

Here is the four paw massage while driving with Mom. Inside the comfy coat, of course.

I have started rubbing his belly...kinda coming in from the sides... while distracting with ear scratches...up to about 5-10 seconds at a time actual belly time...side rubs/scratches accepted about twice that time amount...it’s a process...

Something caught Ruth's attention long enough for me to get a non blurry picture of her. She was born to a feral mama who was unfortunately killed by coyotes. I gave her siblings to tame barn cat of mine who took right to them, but would have nothing to do with Ruthie. I took her in and as she got older, I realized she could not walk and has a moderate to severe movement disorder. She's 2 this year and is walking and feeding herself with minimal issues, though she looks terribly drunk when she does either.

Sacha will have a routine for a long, long time - sometimes as long as a year. Then, out of the blue, she changes it up.

Her normal sleeping spot is the cat bed in the chair by the window, or on the back of the chair itself where I've draped a blanket for her. For the last three days, she's begun sleeping on the bed, snuggled right up against the pillows:

Only time will tell if this is her "new norm".

Lately Mango and Pumpkin have been very snuggly with us after we climb in bed. Mango smooshes up against my right side, then me, then my wife in her usual fetal position, and finally Pumpkin curled up inside of her. No pictures since I leave my phone in the other room so I have a rational excuse for not picking up in the middle of the night. I think this is in reaction to the anxiety we're feeling... it can't be because of a change in work habits. Work hasn't changed since I work in a hospital and she has worked from home for 5 years.

I put up a photo of Princess last year; very sadly we lost her to kidney disease just before Christmas.

We didn't want to get another cat straight away, and were planning on waiting until the summer. However, a colleague of my wife had a family member with a cat needing rehoming, so we now have Tia as part of our family.

Ours are heat-seeking cats. So in the winter, they will tend to snuggle into bed with us - once it gets really hot, they will be off in their own spots.
