Stalen Ros 2013

This coming Sunday the Stalen Ros will be organized again in Neerkant, Holland.

I am thinking of cycling there and go home by train, anyone want to join me?

Now there's just the matter of the plane ticket from STL to Schipol...

I plan to go to Neerkant, but not by bike. According to Google it would take me 8 1/2 hours to get there. At what time do you expect to arrive in Neerkant?

I went there by bike last year. Well, after I took the train to Eindhoven...

This year I planned a romantic weekend with my gf in the beautiful countryside of Asten, Noord-Brabant, which just so happens to be 5-10k from Neerkant. She is going to freak out, but it's gonna be worth it!

Bring her along for an uitsmijter. How much more romantic do you want it?

You're off to a pretty early start then! Have a good trip, and I'll see you in Neerkant.

Went for a ride around Asten today. Wind was heavy with some snow falling, but the roads and scenery were pretty nice. I'll post some pics when I get back home, since this noob doesn't know how to upload pics from his phone...

Anyway if tomorrow the weather is like this I recommend Paul to take the train at first and then cycle back, cause of the wind direction.

You seem to have managed a picture upload despite your noobiness. Because of the wind I'll be traveling by car both ways. I'll try to be there early.

I arrived around 1130-slept in due to the snow. Lots of nice bikes, knowledgeable vendors and lots of shoppers. Two bikes that caught my eye were a 1992ish EMs Corsa Extra made from Columbus Max tubing, a precusor to MXL EMs Leader biked I was told, apparently quite rare in Max? and the other bike I liked alot was a very clean 1978ish Gazelle Champion Mondial in 753 Reynolds and all Super Record. Just my size, but I left it there for someone else.

Had a nice day at the Stalen Ros today. Tour of the grounds and drinks with paulkal and Zieleman, and met some other acquaintances from the Dutch C&V scene. And bought some stuff, most if which I probably don't really need: some headgear, a yellow Silca pump for my yellow Dawes, a Raleigh branded SunTour 7/GT, a SunTour Superbe Tech, a set of Campagnolo brake pads and lever rubbers, a Cibié rear light for my Rochet, a pair of T100 triathlon pedals, a Belleri stem and an Arius Gran Carrera in smooth brown leather.

So you found out wthat the pedals are?
There were many nice bikes and parts. Because I already have way to many parts, I did not but a lot. Only a fork and the book "Made in England".
I am very happy with the fork I bought, it is exactly the correct length.
I read a little in the book on the way home, it is interesting.
Because of the wind (and a cold I had last week), I did not cycle, but had the train to Weert and cycled from there.

Yes, it seems they were developed in the mid-eighties for triathlon use, so you could slip in with your running shoes. The plastic inserts come out so you can use them with cleated shoes as well. But with the arrival of clipless systems they never quite got the intended following.
I am keen to try them on my "holiday touring bike" as I tend to combine longer riding stretches with a lot of walking about at the stopovers on that bike. So a pedal that will let me use clips and be comfortable with sneakers seems like a very good idea.
