My 1982 Trek 613

I think I am finally happy with the way it looks. I still need to get a new stem to replace the Specialized one the previous owner added.

Sorry for the terrible pictures. Getting used to my phone camera.

I got the bike in all original condition (Dont worry I still have the original parts) Ive since added as seen in pics a Gyes Gs17a saddle, Bartape is Gyes leather, MKS Touring Pedals, IRD Defiant freewheel, Uno seat post, Nitto bars, Michelin World tours, 27" Sun CR18s. This is my first C&V bike and Im quite sure it wont be my last.

They are probably the heaviest tire Ive ever mounted but they are very smooth rolling. Idk how they are gonna compare with my Schwalbes for flat protection but the price on them is very reasonable and im not expecting miracles. That said I really like the way they look on the bike and the quality is far superior to the Kenda gumwalls they replaced.

I wish the browns matched a little better but in person it isnt too far off. Plus im sure the wrap will dirty up a bit. It was my fourth time wrapping bars and my first time wrapping leather but it went on alright. Still debating weather I should put a little proofhide on the wrap or not. Good idea or bad?

Just out of curiosity- why did you choose the 27s instead of 700C?

Although I'm happy with the 27s on my 620- I'm kind of limited to them because of my canti posts.

Are those SunTour Blue Line derailleurs? I just got a set of those, thinking about what to put them on.

How is that Gyes saddle? I tried an earlier model sold by V-O a few years ago, and did not like it at all.

I was just trying to keep it close to original as I still have all the original parts including the rims. I realize that you have a greater selection of tires for 700c but I plan on keeping it "vintage" so the 27" selection is fine by me.

Yes those are the original Blue line deraillers. They work great IMO especially seeing as how they are 30 years old. This is my second Gyes saddle and I love both. I have not put any crazy miles on either saddle but have no complaints. Idk about the VO models but I ordered both of mine from Crow cycle co. Much cheaper then VO

FWIW: I swapped out the 27s on my 1984 Trek 620 (canti brakes) and replaced them with 700c wheels. I did not have a problem with the brakes.

Beautiful Bicycle. Would love a 620 or 720 from that era!

I have the identical bike, although at present, it's bone stock. You've certainly turned a Plain Jane into something quite pretty. Good job.

Since I recently got a 1983 500 I put the rack and bottle cage back onto the 613 and cleaned it up a bit to compare the frames. Not much difference

Well, I like what you've done with the bike a lot! (plus I like 1982!)

If you plan to use it as a touring bike you'll need to add a front rack also. If you don't intend to tour, you may want to lose the rear rack, add a small front randonneur style rack, and add aluminum fenders. Either way, you're set!

Ive been keeping an eye out for a Jim Blackburn front rack since I got the bike to go with the original rear and bottle cage. I never have much time in life it seems to really use the bike for touring. Me and some friends have talked about a sub240 but I wouldnt need much gear for that. Since I have the 1983 500 now and the only difference in the frame geometry is 1cm less in chainstay length Im thinking about setting the 613 up more for touring and leave the 500 set up riding the rail trails around my area. Id use it for commuting but I have my Mercier to beat on with its 5 speed IGH.

Very nice! Looks like there's a lot of vintage Trek love going around right now (I've been away for a while). Congratulations on a great looking bike!

But - you have too much rear brake line...

Finally found a front rack that looks similar to the original Blackburn rear rack. Its a Soma alloy rack.

I think It matches pretty well.

I rigged my Nike Skateboard Backpack into a front rack bag sort of. The board straps attach to the handlebar easily. It looks like it might be a good match for a Green Carradice Rear rack bag as well.
