"Those Double Blue's are fine bicycle's, just like Raliegh's".

Wouldn't a Double Blue's be the same as Blueses's?

Those Raliegh's are pretty heavy, though--probably the ironic material they used for frame tubing.

HDS in "Dillinger" - classic.

As for the floater in "Short Cuts", I mean, c'mon: those dudes were on a FISHIN' TRIP!!

Anne Archer's character was way out of line on that one ;)

Let's not forget, HDS was also in Alien. Albeit, being alien breakfast.
But he does a pretty good "Meow."
No kitties being posted.

I'll take us on a tangential ride (using a metaphor):

"Perks" is not the correct abbreviation for perquisite...it should be rendered: "perq" and plural: "perqs".

We're not talkin' 'bout free cups o' coffee here, people!

Glad to have shared, carry on...

You're dealing with local dialect stuff here. I grew up in Buffalo, and there's a property of the local dialect called "possessification". Read more here (scroll down to Possessification).

yeah -- especially 'the ditch' period: ttn, otb, asnb, zuma...

really, though, i'm a fan of the '70s -- the best period of hard rock, garage rock, progressive soul, insurgent country, the birth of the clash and joy division, dylan's best work ... and great film ... before it all went to shíte with the coming of neon, crack, minivans, hair bands, bad bicycle paint schemes, and the yuppie.

i do have a soft spot for '20s lit, film noir, '50s jazz and the beatles.

You'd look smarter with some cream tyres. And I don't mean "smarter", I mean "smarter".

eschlwc 04-01-13 05:07 PM

sailor, you're not paying attention -- your punctuation goes inside the quotes.

sailorbenjamin 04-01-13 08:07 PM

Nah. I like to let them hang out. That period is for the whole sentence. The Quoted words and phrases are not sentences on their own and don't deserve a whole period to themselves.

eschlwc 04-01-13 09:04 PM

"smart," in an ironic sort of way.

Hmm. That comma does look sorta free range. Maybe from an aesthetic point of view it would look better inside the quotes. I'll think about it and let you know what I decide tomorrow.

Well, semicolons ad colons go outside the quotes. Question marks and exclamation points can go in or out, depending on the sentence. Both brake cables always go in front of the handlebars. Or is it behind them? Or one in front and one behind? I can never remember.

rootboy 04-02-13 05:02 AM

This thread has taken a decidedly anal bent. And now we're talking about colons.

oldbikenewbike 04-02-13 09:19 AM

OK. I began this Thread....can I end it now? It's gone past a simple nitpicking and taken a weird turn, lol:p.

The grammar in this thread could use a good cleansing.

So playing on this tangent. Perk(s) is a word in itself and is a synonym for perquisite. So the use of "perk(s)" is correct.

i covered that in an earlier post, sans non-aero cable, which always goes behind the bars, like my 'new' '84 club fuji:

Depends on stem length.
