Good start, dvs. You can't have too many steel Treks!

PS- What's next on your agenda?

Next on my agenda will be to see how structural the original wheelset is. If they are ruff ill order some polished Sun M13s for it. Ill keep it 27" since I already have a new set of Schwalbe HS 159s sitting around and that will save on cost. The owner says its rust free aside from some chips on the downtube so that shouldnt be an issue.

M13's would be a good choice. ( I just built a another set for one of my Raleighs, and they're very nice rims. )
I'm thinking a 770 or something like that should be somewhere on your horizon.

A 770 would be awesome and one day I hope to acquire some more desirable models in the Trek lineup. Im really happy with the CR18s I have on my 613 but dont think ill need that wide of a rim for the 500 so the M13s seemed like a good choice. I also have a 1992 850 Antelope that Ive been thinking of throwing some drop bars onto but that a distant project. Nice neon orange and purple paint job. Not exactly C&V though. Im just glad I finally moved out of my apartment and into a house so I can make more of these projects happen.

Well I got the Trek. It was fully original down to the Tires. The gumwalls disintegrated when I tried to take them off the rim to look at the rim tape which was also done. Gumwalls left what looks like sawdust all over the rim too. I put on the Schwalbes I had, New Cane Creek grey matter pads and wiped it down a bit. Mandatory reflector removal was also done. I used the Original SR seatpost from my 613 since this one was the design that requires the boxed wrench on both sides

Yea the guy was moving out to California and didnt want to take it with him but luckily he kept it in his garage. Aside from the chips and scrapes from being moved around alot its in pretty good shape. Makes up for the 84 I picked up with a seized seatpost, Stem and a nice dented toptube. Still havent figured out what Im going to do with that thing.

Stuck seat posts CAN be freed....with time and patience (and sometimes brute force...carefully applied) top tube ding....trickier, I have seen several examples of "Dings" removed....so there IS hope. Top tube ding NOT as bad as a downtube ding from a structural point of view. Stuck seatpost in my Bridgestone took over a week to break loose, upside down in a vice (with wood in jaws), shooting with PB Blaster from "Below" after several days of shooting it from above. Tapping gently with hammer a few times a day, finally broke loose.

A perfect example of what can happen when you run the brake cables in front of the bars.

Those are the original cables I believe. They are being replaced today when I get off work

Hahaha if You are ever in the clearwater area come and get it. Its just sitting in my shed. Everything you see on the frame is either seized or stripped. I never tried to free any of it up. Never had the time to mess with it in my apartment.

I seem to specialize in seized and stripped! I am down in St Pete, but I do get up to Largo at least a couple times a week, Clearwater isn't much further....I'll try and drop you a PM next time I'm headed up that way! Looks about my size (perhaps a little small, which means my 14yr old may grab it as he grows out of his Team Fuji!)

What is the 84? I've got an 84 610 I'm going to be torching on eventually to repair similar issues.

not 100% but I think it might be a 610. It has no rear rack braze ons like my 82 613
