I got back up (slowly) and, although I'd ground a lot of skin off my shoulder and back, my Bell did it's job and I was alert, coherent and rode back home to get first aid for the abraisions. Easy decision... I always wear a helmet now. Modern, comfortable and up-to-date with safety standards.
Best Wishes
I still have my Bell V-1 Pro. Still like its looks too:

It's visual styling was based on the leather hairnet helmets like the Kucharic (I had one of those too...sold it...I think all it was good for was road rash. Kind of sexy lookin though...). I stopped wearing the V-1 for several reasons: One; I kind of wanted updated styling. Two; I'm told the foam hardens over time and thus reduces it's impact absorption capability. Three; because strap retention systems of newer helmet models were vastly improved over the V-1...more comfortable, better fitting. Newer helmets are also lighter, since they use a lighter weight shell.

Maybe Bell should re-issue an upgraded version of the design.

Depending on where you live - I use a hemet cover (goretex neon yellow) most of the time. The reason is that I tend to ride in the dark, sometimes in the rain, and on cold days - I don't need to wear a hat for warmth.

It may sound simple - but I care more about cars seeing me than the why I look. In the summer, I will still put it on at night since it helps cars see me. Since most helmets don't look good on me anyway - I fred it up.
