High Wheel Bikes in Frederick MD
Today registration opened up for the 2nd Clustered Spires High Wheel Race. If you have a penny farthing and love to ride or show off your bike - be a part of it! www.highwheelrace.com
This will be a unique racing event set to take the streets of historic downtown Frederick, Maryland on August 17, 2013. Racers will be riding original or replica high wheel bicycles dating from the late 19th Century. To celebrate these historic machines, the event will feature riders dressed in vintage clothing.
The race will be a one-hour criterium (multi-lap) race of high-wheels along a 0.4 mile route through historic downtown Frederick, MD. The winner of the 2012 Clustered Spires High Wheel Race completed 42 laps!
Even if you don't race, come anyway - being a spectator is just as fun!

I remember reading about this race last year but didn't make it. Hopefully this year things will work out differently. Coincidentally, one of the guys I went on a club ride last week out of Boonsboro MD rides a penny farthing. I seem to remember him mentioning something about this race.

That looks like fun to watch -- I don't have the coordination or guts needed to ride one of them contraptions.

WV is not flat..
I think they had a pretty good turn out last year. It will probably be bigger this year. Riding one is bad enough, I couldn't imagine trying to race one.
