Online Bicycle Encyclopedia?

I have something close to 100 blogs on my blog list, in addition to those there are a dozen other websites that I frequent when trying to get more information about bikes.

There are hundreds of threads from BF that I have searched for information abuout bikes. One day it occurred to me that I spent so much time reading threads from this forum that I might as well register as a user.

In the millions of Goole searches I have done, I have come across thousands of images and have saved a few hundred of them. Each image is a different brand and model bike. I don't share these images because I don't own them and they are not my bikes, I am just providing unrequested archival service.

I am thinking of trying to bring all this information together in a single location so that it can be used in a way that is more intuitive for who ever is searching. I am primarily interested in building a catalog of images with links to relevant information.

If George buys a bike at a garage sale, knows absolutely nothing about bikes but decides he wants to know more about this old bike that rides like a dream, he could browse images of lugs, dropouts and decals.

There are blogs and websites that are devoted to specific brands, models, eras and types of bikes. My thought is to establish some uniformity, fill in existing gaps and and point to better, more authoritative sources where they exist.

Would such a site add or detract from BF? Would true C&V folk use such a site? Do you think it's worth the effort?

I will add some observations. I am sure not an internet expert but links seem to be too temporary to build anything with. I use Velobase quite a bit myself.

Sounds like a neat idea but, do you really have that much time on your hands? It sounds as though it would be an exhaustive, and exhausting, enterprises.

Worth my time and effort to create? No. Something I would appreciate if someone else went to the trouble of creating it? Absolutely!
