I Love Brasso
I've always used Mother's when polishing up aluminum on these beautiful vintage bikes. So this spring I grabbed the can of Brasso and ignoring the warning not to use on aluminum (though they recommend trying it on a hidden surface if you do) I have found this stuff to bring a mirror finish. A few moments ago I applied it to the exposed portion of the handlebars near the stem where the classy engraving is.....WOW. Love it.
Still, I keep the Mothers for the more oxidized, aged areas. Now, if only Weinmann concaves were easier to clean. |
Have to beware of any polish containing ammonia on aluminum because of the corrosive effect. I don't use Brasso on it.

Yeah, I use Brasso. It does do a nice polish but, as you say, you have to make sure it's all gone when you're done.

I saw more than my share of the wadding-type brasso in military basic training, the smell of that stuff makes me cringe. Noxon 7, now that's the stuff!

Be aware that Brasso also contains oxalic acid, so I always wear gloves when using it. Another tip: Brasso works great(!) at cleaning tubular glue, though it does leave a thin film which should be wiped off rims, etc.
