Please help ID my Pinarello

Hi all

Been searching through the forum trying to sort out how to id my steel Pinarello frame.

Bought it some years back already painted with no decals and Shimano 600 running gear.

Bottom bracket says Pinarello, Treviso HH958

Otherwise from what I've read, the braze on front derailleur mount, top tube exterior cable mounting and lugwork suggests early 80s but would appreciate any info.
Thanks for your time.

just guessing, bu I'd say later than "early" 80s: the '85 catalog touts the "New" investment-cast BB shell, and they continued using those at least through '89, wherein that year's catalog included models with the regular TT cable guides.

I assume that's a replacement fork (?).

Thanks for your reply Unworthy1

Yep def a replacement fork, bit of an odd combo!

Have emailed Pinarello to see if they can do anything with the serial but from what I've read they are usually not too helpful.

somebody who knows Pinarello serial numbers will probably come along and chime in...the "HH" might be a date code, but I won't even guess (I'm out of my depth).
Welcome to the forum, nice bike!
Somebody might even have a better fork for your frame!

I've only seen that BB shell on the Montello model. However, the lack of internal brake cable routing and chrome would be atypical for a Montello, unless it is possibly a non-USA model. Still, the lack of these and other features, such as a pump peg, have me leaning towards a very early Montello, circa 1985, along with unworthy1 (who, BTW, is far from unworthy). Assuming it is a Montello it should have Columbus SLX tubing. The first thing that I would be doing is pulling the crankset and bottom bracket to verify the presence of SLX's helical ridges in the ends of the chainstays, seat tube and down tube. That would corroborate the model, if nothing else.

Thanks very much T-Mar, that's of great assistance. I'm in Australia so the non USA model is likely!

I will investigate as you suggest and report back!

How funny! I was just doing a bit of research on Pinarello serial numbers and found the bike I bought a few months back!

From my research it's a Montello circa 1985. The tell-tale signs are the lack of chainstay bridge and SLX tubing (there is rifling on the inside of the seat tube.) I also think the Montellos were the only model that had a 'GP' logo just forward of the seat binder bolt, but I'm yet to confirm that.

While most of the Montellos had internal brake cabling through the top tube, there was the option of buying the frame only with cable guides, just like this one: https://bulgier.net/pics/bike/Catalog...rello85/9d.jpg

I imagine there is a whole lot of chrome under that paint!

Hey billone, do you have any information on the person you bought it off? I would love to track down the original fork.
