1946 Humber Sports (image heavy)

This old girl belonged to my wife's aunt. She bought it new back in 1946 and used it regularly over the next 50 or so years as her only mode of private transport. One day I was visiting her and the Humber was sitting in the front garden propped against the wall under the window. I asked auntie if she had been out for a spin. She told me that the bike had been left there in the hope that someone might steal it during the night as it was taking up valuable space in her garden hut and that she wasn't using it any more. (auntie was in her late 70s at this point in time...) I asked if I could remove it for her and use it and when she said yes I tucked it away in the car. I used it regularly to exercise my young dog, there was a certain point in the village where, when we arrived we both went full pelt down the road, dog running along the pavement (sidewalk) and me trying to keep up with him on the road, the dog always won.

All this happened 15 years ago and last week I sold the bike to a collector, sad in a way that I don't have it any longer but glad that it has been saved from the local thugs and happier that an enthusiast will appreciate it.

Thought I would share this piece of British Engineering with you...Enjoy

From a time when stuff was built to last. It will probably still be around in 2046. In similar shape. Thanks for sharing!

Fabulous bike, 47p. It's good that you passed it on to someone who I am sure will treasure it.

Hi, just want to clarify,
Humber take overed by Raleigh in 1932, the bike of humber still used humber attribute until ww2 end still use until 1953.

After that, all humber cycle gave Raleigh industries stamp/atribut on the bike part.

Humber before 1950 did not use name plate, but use transfer name, like sticker. Humber in range 1950 to 1952 use name plat with "Appointment to HM The King", and after that year, 1953 up use" Appointment to Late King George VI". And I thing your humbe builded between 1950 to 1952. CMIIW
