Chain stay crease...

Sorry in advance for the (probable) noobie question...

Is this "dimple" the result of a trauma, or in the design of the frame?
(I'm fearing the former, and hoping the latter!)

The bike is an '86 Fuji Royale II; the frame shows no other signs of a crash, and is otherwise aligned and spaced perfectly.

Yup. And the ones on the insides of the chainstays allow for more tire clearance.
