Best wall-hanger?

Based on the post count on this forum, we may safely assume that we know what C&V bike is the best to actually ride: the Peugeot UO8. However, when it comes to bikes best hung on walls, things are less clear. Maybe we can do something about that. We've had some threads on wall-hangers, but those were just about eye candy. No, what I mean are those bikes that look really fantastic, but are really disappointing as soon as you actually ride them.

The example from my stable would be my Speedwell. Nicely made, well equipped, gorgeous to look at, but as stiff as overcooked spaghetti.

So, which are the bikes that are ooh'd and aah'd, fetch crazy prices on ebay, but are never ridden, because they are actually not so nice to ride? Your nominees, please!

I have thus far only had one bike that mught be too pretty to ride but it was also a TT/Funny bike so impractical to ride also. I ended up selling it. I do display lots of my bikes on double tier racks like such as my Hetchins, Cornelo, the Ti Bianchis and one of the MAX ones.

I don't believe there is a "best wall hanger." For me, if it's not being ridden, it should be passed on to someone who hopefully will. Just my personal philosophy, don't think I'm telling you to be like me.

You can say that again. issue one was, I was always afraid to glue up the tires (afraid of messing up the discs) and was slow to build some clincher wheels. And two was when I came back from the war with a minor back injury, I took one look at her and said she had to go.

I don't care about the spirit of the thread.

But some bikes shouldn't be squirreled away and taken out on occasion. Merckx, Coppi and Bartali come to mind. Hang them on the wall for the world to see.

I couldn't live with myself having it in a box....the greater part of the joy for me is to feel how they ride....

Worthy ? ..... not my concern or care, I'd ride it just for the high.....and probably let my freinds do the same the same too....no sense in bogarting the thing.

Some of the old school aluminum Treks and Cannondales would certainly qualify, IMO. Ride's so stiff on those things that old guys like me can't handle more than about ten miles of the bone-rattling that inevitably occurs. I'm sure it's one of the reasons so many get retro-fitted with carbon forks.

+1. My #2 choice is my Cannondale R900. Like spaghetti as well, but the uncooked variety. Very light and full marks for looks when polished but boy, that thing's stiff!

ALAN's with cracked lugs! Impossible to ride, very pleasing to the eye, but unfortunately pretty common.

I see you miss the point. Certain bikes, as with certain artifacts from history, shouldn't be hidden in a private collection. Having these bikes on your wall or under your ass would be an absolute waste.
