My Latest Rigid MTB find : 1992 Paramount PDG50
Picked this bike up last night for a nice price. Originally this bike has full Deore DX group which is excellent in its own right. I got lucky and whoever had this bike previously replaced most of the DX group with XT 8 speed STI. Scott bars came on the bike, along with a Mavic 217 SUP titanium anodized wheelset, Richey Seatpost, and a Selle San marco Rolls in GREAT shape. The Wheels are VERY lightweight, it was a higher end offering from Mavic in the mid 90's. Still has a DX crank, FD, and catilevers. Weight is very low on this Tange Prestige 18" frame...coming in at 23.8 lbs. This bike looks like it was never ridden on a trail in its life, and judging by the continental road tires you can tell that someone was not hitting any trails with this bike. I plan to take off the road tires and put on some smooth rolling Bontragers that will do double duty on road/trail. Here are some pics.....

Nice! I saw that bike, and it didn't fit into my price range for a flip, and I already have a rigid MTB so I passed it by.
Nice score though, there have been a couple of paramounts lately, and they have been REALLY tempting.

I know you were looking for a rigid MTB...what did you end up getting? Yea there was that PDG 70 on the other day and it sold for 200, it had 7 speed XT and was pretty nice but it had been used far more than this bike. This one has 8 speed XT mixed in with the DX and it rides just amazing. For 100 bucks I did just fine. I now have 4 rigid MTB's....lol. They are so nice to ride and can do trails and road quite nicely.

Score! They are really hard to find locally, as I recall from Stan, the Series 70 and 90 are both Panasonic built. I am not sure on the Series 50.
I had to go the ebay route to get just a frameset my wife's size. Still looking out for myself.
+1 Easiest way to get a mtb under 25 pounds is to start with one that weighs less than 25 pounds.... Starting with a 31 pound mtb is a lot more work and $$.

Please don't confuse ebay "asking" prices with "selling" prices. Many sellers never get their ask price. some are far from it. Value is determined once an item actually SELLS. Its easy enough to check SOLD prices.

Heck yea, thats a nice bike. I like the cable routing on the frame, how the rear brake line wraps around the seattube, and how there is a pulley for the bottom pull FD. Nice little touches. I bet once you clean it up itll look really great.

Exactly, this bike was 26.8 lbs stock I think. At least that was what the Schwinn catalog said. Im pretty sure this series 50 was also made by Panasonic but I could be wrong, the frame is literally identical to the Series 70. The weight dropped signifigantly when the previous owner put this mavic 217 wheelset, road tires, and slapped a ton of XT on it. I have a bike addiction...my GF got a little mad at me for this one! When I see a great find like this, I am grateful that I live in what has to be the worst city for buying bikes off CL that I have ever lived in,
.
Nice bike and nice score btw. Vintage MTBs are great; I own 2.
