Shimano XT M732 FD with band clamp.. 31.8 to 28.6?

I was wondering if anyone has experience with these kind of front derailleurs... there is 1 1/4 stamped on the FD but the seller said he measured the clamp area and it was about 30mm and could go smaller as he tightened it. Is it possible to mount these on a 28.6 mm seat tube without a shim?

Might be easier to just make a shim.

I have several, most are 1-1/4, but one is 1-1/8 and one is 1-3/8. I would like a 1-inch one (just need the band), but have been unable to source one anywhere.

1 inch seems really skinny.. did they ever manufacture mtbs with this size tubing? or i suppose a touring bike

have you tried fitting the 1-1/8 on a 1" seat tube? it would be the same 1/8" difference..

Might be easier to just make a shim.
yeah, or get one from the lbs.. i was just wondering if anyone had tried it since the seller implied it may fit

I have a 28.6mm 'endless band' XT M732 mounted on my Salsa road bike. As I recall, they are pretty size specific; a 31.8mm band won't compress down enough to fit tight on a 28.6mm seat tube without using a shim. Older Deore (MT62) and Deore DX (M650) front DR's also used the band type clamp.

Unfortunately, I don't know a source for the different size bands. My abby-normal brain is thinking of a mod involving a Dremel and the band from a steel hose clamp, but is the hose clamp band too wide to fit into the DR body? Mert Lawwill time...

Hi, I'm the seller of this item. Too bad the pictures came out blurry, I was sure I chose the right ones. I think the 1 1/4 is pretty specific and wouldn't work without the shim. It's hard to measure with the band as it doesn't follow a perfect round shape. These guys have it right. When I measured it it came up as 36mm but as I tightened it I got it to mid 30s, 32 or 33. It could still be tightened a bit but not by much.

I'd wager there never was a 1" clamp one offered- think about it, a 25.4 seatpost is a SMALL diameter seatpost, and that's the INTERIOR diameter of the tube.

For what it's worth, 28.6mm is 1 1/8", 31.8mm is 1 1/4" and 34.9mm is 1 3/8".

Pretty sure you want the 1 1/8" one.

Edit, nevermind, TOTALLY lost track of who the OP was.

I Was looking at a Shimano 600 (6207) FD that Robbietunes gave me & it has the same type of band that's used on the MTB FD's but is a 28.6, so there out there.
